We are thinking about going somewhere in the SW for a break but want to take the girls, two legged and 4 legged versions. The only problem is with all the stuff we need to take for Indigo ( a two legged girl) we are going to struggle to fit it all in our estate.
So does anybody know if there is a company that hires transport for dogs?
It is important as it will be Min my oldies last holiday and we would like to do this as we did with her mum Mars.we would like to take her somewhere on the coast so she can go for walks on the beach and have a paddle and just enjoy herself whilst she is still mobile and enjoying life :)
Thanks
Lucy

Have you thought about getting a small trailer? You can shove all the luggage into that and have the car free for family (human and canine).

We have but the new estate BMW 330 Touring is OK for short journeys with all the dogs in the back but on a long journey it wouldn't be suitable :(
I have been searching the net but haven't found anything yet in the UK. There are a few in the US ! :)
We have got a roof box as well, a big one ,but bar taking one pair of pants, shorts and tee shirts each I can't see how we can do it ! :D

Would hiring a people carrier not suffice? or even a mini bus? I'd just leave the kids at home, i mean it's not a relaxing holiday if the kids are there ;)

People carriers won't have anymore space and with muddy paws etc and hairs we would get shafted for the deposit I would have thought ?
I did think about putting the children in kennels so will keep that as back up for plan 2 :)
I just thought that there would be something as have seen people transporting dogs in special vans with built in cages etc and thought that would be the best and safest way to do it :)

How about hiring another estate car, so two of you drive. Kids and luggage in one, dogs with back seat down in other?

How many kids and dogs are we talking about?

What about getting a top-box for your estate car? Would that give you enough extra space?

Now that is a good idea Khanu :) Simple really ! :)
We are talking about three Labs and a 12 yr old and a nearly one year old and yes we have a roof box but with a travel cot, push chair, baby carrier ruck sack just for starters there is so much to take !
I know that hotels etc provide cots etc but would prefer to take our own :)
I had forgotten what it was like taking babies and dogs on holiday ! :D

Military operation or what! :)
Might be better off hiring minibus with all that stuff!
Nothing sensible to suggest I'm afraid Lucy, but wanted to sympathise, it was hard enough with 2 dogs and one toddler before child number 2 was born, now we have 2 kids ( at least we only need a buggy now and no cots now the youngest is 3!), 3 dogs, but madly we are planning another child, we will probably have to do the 2 car jobby, or get ourselves a caravan (a very big one!!!)

Hi ,
Its not easy is it.
We have 4 children and soon 4 dogs.We have a vauhall Zafira and also tralier and we also planning a roofbox.
However in the short term we don't plan to take all 4 dogs on holiday at the same unless we lose a child.

Small Ford or Vauxhall diesel van for the dogs would be better.
Loads of lie-down room.
Fill it with straw - doggy heaven
I used one for part of the shooting season whilst the Vectra was off the road.
