I need serious help here, I'm trying to send a photograph as an e-mail attachment but when it is recieved it is HUUUUGGEE, GINORMOUS, SCAREY.  I'm stumped as to what to try next as it is only photo-sized on my computer.   What am I doing wrong????

I work in Microsoft Picture It to manipulate my photos and it prints out normal photo size !!

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong??

I found that happened if I tried to send pictures in Bitmap format. When I changed them to jpeg they shrank to manageable proportions.

They're already in jPeg format, I dread to think how big they'd be in any other format  at the moment they're so big they're scarey.  I've tried troubleshooting but this just isn't covered.  Thanks anyway tho :)

Hi Dill,
I've not used MS Picture It but I hope this helps. Sorry if it doesn't!

I use Irfanview for resizing as it's simple... like me. :)  You can download it free.

Are you attaching the file to an e-mail or opening the photo and going to the file, send to, option ? If you do it in  second waythis way it should automatically resize it to send in e-mail format, or so the theory goes :)

What operating system do you have?  If it's xp, then just go to 'my pictures' or where ever your pictures are stored, hi-light the pic you want to send, on the left hand side of the page is box click on e-mail this file, it will then ask you if you want to shrink the picture, tick the box, and send!

Oh we've got XP and I didn't know that, very handy.  Thanks. :)

We have xp and it used to ask if we wanted to re-size the pic,now I have to right click on pic and choose the size from percentages,it's still easy but I think I must have pressed a wrong button somewhere for it to have changed format!!!sandra.

Sometimes I think computers can change their own settings all by themselves! :D

JReynolds,

I do have XP and have tried what you suggested but so far 3 pictures have gone off in to the ether - don't know where they've gone because it didn't have a facility to address them :confused: so I did it while writing an e-mail but they haven't been received there either.  I think that AOL is a BIG part of the problem as I should be able to send them from Picture it but Outlook Express keeps giving the following error;
The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's e-mail address. The sender's e-mail address was 'XXXXX@aol.com'. Subject 'Picture from Microsoft Picture It! ', Account: 'IMAP.uk.aol.com', Server: 'smtp.uk.aol.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '556 CLIENT AUTHENTICATION REQUIRED. USE ESMTP EHLO AND AUTH.', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 556, Error Number: 0x800CCC78

Anyone have any ideas??   XP and AOL are supposed to be intrinsically compatible

At this rate you can all come visit me in the funny farm

I am not familar with 'Picture It', but use AOL and XP without any problems to send photo's.

Is there another photo program on your computer that you could try?

Are you downloading from a camera, if so try downloading into a file on your computer and if not already in JPEG, save the file in 'save as' JPEG.

I have no idea why they are so large, I have often done it like this with no problems.

This might not be any help what so ever as I am an Apple mac person, but I deal with images all the time. Some how you need to find a way of decreasing the Image size, either by resizing the picture or by changing the resolution. 72 dpi is pretty normal. Hope this helps a little, but probably not!!

Not positive but I don't think this has anything to do with the picture size (though that may be a problem as well)  According to the Microsoft site,  error code 0x800CCC78 means ...

"SMTP_REJECTED_SENDER           Unknown sender. This is caused by having the incorrect e-mail address in the Reply-To field."

Read this and see if it helps...

Thanks for that, Kath.
While you were writing that I came to a few conclusions and decided to reconfigure my outlook express account.  I am now able to send pictures that you can see on screen :D :D  rather than the tablecloth-sized ones that were soo scarey.  It took most of my time until 5pm to get things done tho

Thank you all for your help, you helped me keep my hair :D :D

Regards
Dill
