every dog is as individual as us, what works for one dog, wont for another. :)
Im not well knowledged on the bull breeds, but i would reckon having opposite sex would be ok!

im sure a bull breed owner will be alone shortly to help more. :D

I have a male Staff and am currently looking at a female puppy to accompany him.  I love the idea of them growing up together, bonding etc.  I have spoken to countless 'Staff people' about this, as well as independent dog trainers, and it seems that it would be most advisable to get opposite sexes.

Having said this, in the course of my research, I met one lady who now raises Staffs but used to raise English Bull Terriers - she said it is possible to keep Staffs together but harder to keep EBT's together.  Also I met one lady who has two EBT's and a Jack Russell - EBT's were mother and daughter and very fiesty!  Mother was in fact quite aggressive to my dog as well as her own daughter but pretty much left the Jack Russell alone.

As has been mentioned, each dog has individual personalities, but you can't underestimate breed characteristics either.  As the Staff is older, it may well be fine - just be very careful and I guess be prepared to have them separated when unsupervised if things don't work out.  Why not just get another Staff :)
