Can anyone tell me what they think about Halti's?  I have a four month chocolate Lab and he sometimes can pull so much while walking that I have trouble hanging onto him. We have started dog training classes and I have favoured the halti to the choke chain method thinking that it was a more humane way of training. I must say that the difference in him has been amazing but he doesnt like having the halti on and resorts in either rubbing his muzzle up things or rolling around on the floor with it on. Can anyone tell me if he will eventually get used to this or is it driving him absolutley mad!! I feel awful as he obviously doesnt like having it on but while training its seems the only answer (unless I take up body building!!!!!!)

He will get used to it! just perservere, it will be worth it in the end. It might be better if you also use it on walks, not just for training as he will then associate it with something pleasant. Make sure you also have the lead attached to an ordinary collar as well though as some dogs can escape from the Halti if they are determined enough. You could also try him on a half-check rather than a choke chain.

Have you tried putting it on him for his meals and any titbits? That should get him associating it with good things.

I hesitated in getting a halti but it was worth getting one. Buster chokes when on a normal coller so i have to use one now. I also use one on bengi but he has a link attached to his coller ( so its not directly linked to the coller ) as he likes to wriggle out of it. They do get used to it but you have to make it a pleasent experince aswell.
