Do you go outside with him and is he doing it in your presence?

The logical answer would be for you to go outside and play with him - dogs cannot know which items are their toys and which items are not for "playing" with unless we let them know.

Every time he starts chewing something you don't want him to then distract his attention from it by offering him something else or throwing a toy for him. Do this at other times as well.   If you say "no" each time then he has found a sure way of getting your attention even if it not in a positive manner.  If you distract him with the items he can have then you may eliminate his chewing unwanted items without really drawing attention to the fact you have noticed him doing it.

Our 6 yr old Akita will still go into demolition mode if he's left outside. Kerioak is right, Akitas are people dogs & don't like been left outside alone, so he's probably doing it to get attention. Only solution is not to leave him outside for more than a couple of minutes without company.
