We're looking to buy a tent in the spring/summer so that we can go on w/ends away. There aren't very many places you can take two Mastiffs and two JRT's. What is a Khyam????
If they are easy to put up where could I get one 'cos I'm no genious when it comes to putting tents up.
Are they expensive????

Ours is a dome shaped tent, two ended with built in lining and groundsheet.I can put it up on my own given a bit of time :D so it cannot be difficult! It happily sleeps up to 8 scouts and their kit when hubby goes shooting with the scouts! so very roomy.
We bought it some time ago at a camping exhibition that happens here every July/Aug. time.I believe they are readily available from such places as Milletts etc and are probably available online.
We bought ours a few years ago now,but I think it was around the £350 mark.

Porkie,
Thanks we have a Milletts shop near us. We'll go look 2morrow. can't afford it just yet but by about May we will.
Does it have seperate b/rooms?? And somewhere to put Dog cages???
My kids wouldn't be very happy about being in with us.
I've seen the tents with 2-3 b/rooms but they are ridiculous prices.

Yes each end of the tent can be sectioned off from the main area by zipping up the two inner sections. We use one end for storage and the other for general cooking, washing etc.The main central area also has a partition which could provide two or three bedroom areas, but it wouldn't stop any snoring :D from other occupants.
Dog cages would easily fit into one end or the other no problem. We often took our previous dog camping and she loved it,there are many good sites around that allow dogs, mostly on lead on-site,but many provide off lead exercise areas. We have camped in Somerset,Dorset,Devon, all over Wales and parts of Scotland, also North Yorks where my sister use to live no problems at all!
One good thing we also invested in,from the exhibition, was off the ground campbeds!lightweight aluminium folding ones, much nicer than sleeping bags on the groundsheets and also gives extra storage area under the beds and provides somewhere to sit, without the need to take foldup seats too!
The central area of our dome tent is large enough for me to stand up fully to dress,no crouching and pulling jeans on or off at back-breaking angles :) and no condensation drips down the back in the early mornings.

the only and best piece of advice is to buy the best you can - you need to be able to rely on your tent - as i just found out the hard way in the nevis range when my tent started leaking...

We had a Khyam and were very pleased with it - we've now given it to my son as he needs the 6 berths & we don't any more. We now have a 2 berth Combi-Camp trailer tent - hope it will be OK for us & 2 labs!!

Speaking as a seasoned camper (!!) we started off in a good quality second hand tent, as we didn't want to run to the expense of a new tent if we didn't enjoy the experience (or if it just rained too much ...). Having decided that we quite enjoyed eating our dinner in the middle of a field in all kinds of weather, we took the plunge and brought a brand new tent, selling our old tent for what we paid for it. We're now into our sixth year of camping, but have never taken a dog (we've only had our springer since last September). I'm sure she'll love it just as much as we do ... If not, I'll have to stay at home with her in our nice warm house, with a nice comfy bed !!

khyams are expensive but really good, look on their website,& im sure youll find one big enough,as they come in all sizes!
khyam is just the make /type, they are made so you can put them up easyily, needs to be for me.

IMO buy before the season starts. You should be able to get one cheeper as they give special offers to try to get people to buy them.

Thanks everyone,
I'm off to Milletts 2morrow. I'll look on the website first though.
The problem we have with campsites is our dogs are Mastiffs and most of the sites don't let Mastiffs/ Danes etc. on-site.
We thought about a second-hand tent but there has to be a reason to sell doesn't there??

Hi,
I've been camping several times with Danes - if they accept dogs, I've not known any site ask what type they are, although I suppose some may. :D
As long as you check out a second-hand tent you should be fine - people often sell because they just don't use them. Bought in the first flush of enthusiasm, sold after the first wet weekend.
