Picking up on some recent posts on this subject, I am due to collect my new pup in a couple of weeks and intend to use a crate for her at night. I have read that the crate should not be too big so that the pup relieves itself at one end and sleeps at the other end of the crate, and someone has suggested partitioning off the crate to just allow enough space for sleeping. However surely the pup would still need to go to the toilet in the night to begin with if you did this or should you get up a couple of times in the night to see if she needs to go? although I noticed someone seemed to laugh at the need to do this as well. Any advice would be appreciated. I just want to try and do the right thing from the beginning

I have always had my young pups in a crate beside my bed and when they need to go they will wake me up and then I kick the other half and he gets up and takes them out. ;)  Over a few nights it becomes increasingly difficult to wake him up because of the lost sleep so the pup will learn to hold on for longer until one morning you wake up and realise pup has slept all night.
