Hi Cooper
can i just ask what steps you took to realise your dog had a yeast allergy ?

i had an allergy test done by the vet as i was having (well the dog was) quite a few problems including yeast build up in the ears , itchy paws and rhinitis

You could PM Tohme, I think she knows about yeast allergies. :)

As he actually got an allergy to yeast or does he suffer from yeast overgrowths?  There is a real difference between the two.

Yeast overgrowths are encouraged by a grain rich diet, the addition of brewers yeast in the food (look for that on the label) and of course sugar (obvioulsy we all know that sugar feeds yeast from our knowledge of bread and alcohol).  Fruits are obviously full of sugar and therefore I would avoid fruits and add veg in stead.  Are you feeding raw or cooked?

sorry, allergy was the incorrect term , it is an overgrowth problem to do with the stomach bacteria.i have heard several fruit are ok but just wondered which were for sure (bananas are ok i have heard) also certain veg like sweet potato are supposedly no good (sugar content) any help appreciated.i am feeding raw at the moment.heard dietry enzymes could help too, already on probiotics(acidophilus) just wanting any helpful input.

Yeast overgrowths can be quite common in some dogs both of the intestinal tract and externally, as well as ears etc etc.

Dogs shorter digestive tract makes it difficult to digest starches and grains which are complex carbohydrates as they need a longer time in the digestion tract to process with fermentation and to break down. These foods are designed for longer alimentary tracts that can properly break down the cell walls. Additionally, they require specialized enzymes to achieve this goal. Furthermore, starches and grains are composed of chains of sugars (polysaccharides) and these substances help promote the growth of yeast.  Additionally, foods that are too alkaline can also promote yeast growth. Therefore, it is beneficial to adjust the diet by adding foods that are more acidic (most often meat) and eliminating the high sugar foods (carbohydrates).  Eliminate all grains, including rice and pasta, starchy vegetables, such as carrots, potatoes, squash, corn and green peas, organic Apple Cider Vinegar, fruits, flaxseed oil. You can feed celery, courgettes, broccoli, dark leafy greens, cabbage, cucumbers, and bok choy.
