Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / dominance in female with male bullmastif
- By Guest [gb] Date 15.03.04 14:15 UTC
how do you stop my female bullmastiffs dominance over my male
We always make it clear feeding and any treats or toys are automatically
given to my male to make it clear he is leader of the pack
iwould welcome any tips

You should let them decide who is the best leader if you think there needs to be one.

Sorry but your female will be the leader as all my females are and have always been, most Bullmastiff females will take charge so you should not tell any of them off just keep an eye on them as she could hurt him if she goes at him. and dont feed them any where near each other. good luck

Corso Girl is right. My Bullmastiff bitch is definitely the leader and the dog although now bigger and stronger is quite happy to sit back and let her be in charge.

Why are you trying to make the male the 'leader of the pack'?  Let the dogs sort it out themselves - you will no good and potentially lots of harm by trying to impose a pack structure on your dogs.

Females are usually, in my experience, the dominant ones over males.  My parent's female cocker is half the size of my two males, but there is no doubt who has the final say.

Yes, totally different breed, but in Belgians, whereas the male will often seem to be boss, the bitch will always, but always, have the last word! ;)

It is not a good idea to force  a pack structure on a dogs, it is better to if necessary accept or reinforce what they have worked out between them.
