i purchased my puppy recently and paid £500
a b/tan cavalier kc spaniel. the breeder was registered with champdogs,
but the pup has no kc registration. i was told the pup was registered but on looking at the paperwork when we got her home we were only given a handwritten pedigree certificate.
  is there anything i can do to get this done?

Just because a breeder is registered on this site is not necessarily a mark of quality.  The breeder is the only one who can register your puppy with the KC, if neither of the parents are KC registered then you will be unable to register it on the breed register but only on the Obedience/WT register the same as if it was a cross breed; unfortunately this means you will not be allowed to show it either.

Do you have anything in writing which states that the puppy was to be KC registered? Is so, you should be able to take legal action. If not, there's not much you can do unless you can prove that you were deliberately misled. Sorry you've had a bad experience, but perhaps it will help someone else as it shows that buying a puppy is the same as buying anything else from a stranger - you have to get everything in writing.

Is that the going rate?

Hi Anne have you contacted the breeder it is possible the KC document just hadnt arrived when you collected the puppy it might be at the breeder waiting for you!
although if the breeder hasnt contacted you to make sure the pup settled ok I would be a little concerned :(
