Topic Dog Boards / Health / Lump found on front leg
- By ROSIEDOLLYJAZ [gb] Date 14.03.04 16:39 UTC
Hi
We have found a large lump on Dollys (bc) front leg near her elbow. We havent noticed it before so don't think it's been there long.

I felt the other leg and there is a tiny lump in the same place, I am so worried, we have been using a Harness and the straps go under the front legs, could this have caused the lumps??

Please help

Thanks

Jo

Hi Jo, I guess its possible that the harness maybe rubbing her or catching her there - especially seeing as there are bumps on both elbows, but the harness probably shouldn't come into contact with that part of her leg?  Does she sleep on a hard floor or throw herself down?  Maybe in the kitchen or in the garden?  I have known of dogs (esp. skinny legs) get a kind of callous (sp?) sometimes the size of tennis balls  around each elbow joint due to this reason!  I am assuming that Dolly will be checked out by the vet just for your own reassurance - but the fact that she has them on both elbows may suggest trauma of some kind, maybe a knock or bump on a hard surface especially on such a protrusive joint!
Sarah :)
PS - try not to worry too much Jo ;)

Hi Sarah
Thanks for your post, she does tend to throw herself down on the floor especially when she wants her tummy rubbed!, we are going to take her to the vet to find out what it is, but your comments do sound correct.

I'll let you know

Thanks

Jo
