I have a female papillion who is 15 years old. The problem started just over 3 weeks ago, we thought she was in heat as she was showing all the usual signs i.e. licking her parts and wanting out a lot. However she is still doing this but she has started wetting the carpet which she has never been guilty of before and drinking more than usual. Other than that she is her normal happy self. What do you think is the cause of this?

Incontinence, urinary infection. I would get her checked out by a vet.

They want suggest putting her to sleep, will they?
I would not have thought so unless she is in a lot of pain or has an incurable condition.
The chances are she has an infection - if you can get a sample to take with you it may help speed up the diagnosis. If she is leaking whilst sleeping you could put a couple of sheets of kitchen roll under her and then put some cotton wool against her vulva. Then, when the cotton wool is sodden put it in a clean jar - I used to do this with my daughter to get uri*ne samples.

My oldie suffered from dementia. She completely forgot all of her house training and just used to do it where ever she felt like it.
There's loads of reasons why your's could have started, but it is wise to get her checked out, as a vet will be able to diagnose and hopefully treat her.
As for putting to sleep, they can't do anything without you're permission.

Thanks for your information. I don't think it't dementia as she is till asking us to go out but the problem is at night time when we're in our bed and she wants out 3 or 4 times within a couple of hours. I think I`ll take her to the vets tomorrow perhaps they'll give her some sort of anti-biotic.

Possibly kidney problems, especially at that age, definitely get to vets and run bloodwork. Early diagnosis can be managed well with slight diet changes
