Hi All,
I'm new to the boards but can see you all give sound advice.
My boxer bitch gave birth to her (and mine) 1st litter of 5 healthy puppies 2 1/2 weeks ago. I know there will be some discharge till about the 3rd week post whelping but I just want to check if it seems ok for the distcharge to start dark red then to lighten to a paleish brown then in the last few days to a redder (but more dilute) discharge. She is very well in herself and I am probably worring about nothing. What do you think?
Thanks, Aimibobs x
That discharge is absolutely fine. You only need to worry if it is bright red (new blood) or really smells offensive.

Well done on your litter :) :) :) I also think the length of time the discharge goes on for depends on the number of puppies the bitch whelps....the more puppies the longer the discharge takes to finish. As Joan says, all sounds well and I wouldn`t be worried if it carried on the way its going (hope that makes sense).Gail :) :) :)

Hi Joan long time no see :D :D :D
Thank you Barbara. Hope you are well.

Hi, the discharge can last for several weeks post-whelping (5 or 6 is not unusual) but as long as it isn't fresh bright red blood after a couple of weeks, and it doesn't smell offensive then it is normal.
:)
