hello everyone
my sisters minature poodle gets this really bad we have had her at the vets several times
the steroids and antibiotics they give her work for a bit but then it all comes back a few weeks later
she is also on garlic tablets that aer suposed to help it but she hasnt been on then that long so we
dont no if they do

Could there be another cause as it is unusual for dogs to continuously getting aproblem unless there is an under lying problem. Does your sister smoke or are their smokers in the house that could be aggravating the problem? Does she use any air freshners etc?

none of us smoke and there are no air freshners anymore do you no any other things that could be causing it

What exactly are the symptoms just coughing or does the dog have a congested chest?

we origanly thought she had tonsillitis
her symptoms are
running eyes,mucous at the back of her throat also in her chest and lungs,she has a bit of a cough
she is a 2 year old the vets have put a camra down her throat into her chest area they have done this twice
they took mucous out and grew it they found out that there were no Allergies
the vets say it is bronchitisand she may have to go on antibiotics for the rest of her life and we are worried it will harm her in later life

It's unusual for bronchitis to be a permenant think unless damage has been done to the lungs. I would still feel that there is something she is reacting to. Has your vet run a general allergy test as provided by TLC?

do you think that there could be damage on the lungs
the allergy test which 1 do u mean and they will prob want to take hair of places
but we think its a good idea

the vet today said that the test would show no diffrence to the 1 she has already had on the mocous to show if she had any allergies and it said there was none

I would dispute that and from what I have heard of TLC they have uncovered allergies that have not been picked up by other methods. Personally I would seek a second opinion.

Has the vet taken a look down the throat at all ?

my mum had a toy poodle which had the same symtoms, the vet at the time, many years ago said that the paint fumes from decorating  the house had caused the problems, sadly a few days after we lost him.

we think she may have lung worm we were chattin to someone in mins and they said this all happend to them she put her dog on panacure for a week and it went so we r naw trying that the vet didnt see it in her doge lungs even with a can fingers crossed

Hi Fiona, some wolfhounds get chest infections / pneumonia that seems to clear up on antibiotics but then recurs days or weeks later. The onset of the illnesses are usually sudden with the dog becoming very ill in a matter of hours. This mostly happens in older hounds, but some young ones have been affected too. Oddly there is often very little to see on X-ray. The drug that seems to work best in these hounds is Rocephin (ceftriaxone), a fourth generation cephalosporin. I've had one case of recurrent pneumonia in an IW that had us in despair until she had a course of Rocephin after which she never had another chest infection. It's impossible to say if your sister's poodle might have the same sort of thing just by going on the posts, but it could be worth mentioning Rocephin to the vet.
