hi i posted a few weeks ago took my dog to the vet four weeks after mating vet said that she was a told me to bring her back when she was six weeks and vet said that there is no pups she only felt her tummy but the dog has really changed i can not leave the room if i do she is behand me everywere i go her rib cage has got bigger her fur around her teats has come away she as also got a clear discharge and if she is having pups she is due today also she keeps going in the cupboard trying to get behand my bed she is diging in my carpet.just wondering what you think could she be haveing pups or do you think it is a false one will be taking her back to the vets on monday thank you all very much for your replys

a false pregnancy or phantom can produce almost identical symptoms to real pregnancy, it sounds like your bitch could be having a phantom pregnancy? if the vet didnt scan her and only had a feel there may be a small chance your bitch is in pup, as we had a bitch a couple of years ago who whelped 4 pups and seemed to be straining once or twice every couple of hours but not the way a bitch strains when shes giving birth properly. we took her to the vet who had a feel and said there were no more pups but i kept on at him so he gave me an oxcytocin injection to tkae home with me and she gave birth to a further 2 pups that night! you willl know your bitch best so if you feel she is possibly expecting you should perhaps get her back to the vets just to make sure?

sounds like she is having pups but this could also be a false pregnancy,vets dont always get it right please join and let us know how you get on

without seeing the bitch, it's really difficult to know.

It sounds to me like she could be having pups, but then phantom/false pregnancies can seem very real.

All I can say, is keep an eye on her.  If she starts panting, give your vet a call, and let them know what's happening.  If she is having pups, it's best to have a vet on hand.
