I have just been on a site which was listing the top 10 dogs. This was what it said for number 2:
Number 2: Designer Mongrels
These include the Cavoodle (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel x Poodle), Maltalier (Maltese x Cavalier King Charles Spaniel) and the Maltese x Shih Tzu. They are all fabulous little family dogs, which have fewer veterinary problems than their purebred parents.
Am I missing something?!!!!!

I bet the site is selling them! If you check on the top ten official breeds you will find no crosses or mongrels for the simple reason that as they are not registered no one knows exactly how many there are!
As to them having fewer veterinary problems, this could only happen with first crosses, after that they would carry the ailments of BOTH breeds! And of course, if any one intended to start a new breed then they could not do that without continuing breeding from the crosses.
Best wishes, John

If you cross a donkey with a horse you get a mule - do you think nature is trying to tell us something by making sure the mule is sterile.

There is a difference, as although these are crosses between similar animals they are actually different species and therefore have different numbers of chromasomes and therefore that is why they are usually sterile, although not always, With dogs they are all the same species just different shapes and sizes so not quite the same thing!!

I think what your getting at Jackie is that both donkeys and horses are equines...alll dogs are canines and hence the comparison

im not sure i see the comparison between mules and crossbred dogs? mules are sterile yes, but most crossbred dogs arent. we bred a litter of "sprocker" pups from one of our working springers and they were more popular than the previous litter of purebred pups! they were really nice litter of pups, we might breed them again as weve had a few enquiries about them. i believe cockapoos and labradoodles are very popluar too
