Hi, I've had a westie puppy for just over a month.  He is just over 4 months old now and I was feeding him Eukanuba puppy food (as advised by the breeder) but he just wouldn't eat it.  I have just changed it to Naturediet which he loves.  I'm giving him half a pack a day of the Chicken variety but he now has the runs.  Is this just the change of diet?  He was eating his poo but I've made a point of picking it up and disposing of it as soon as he's done it (he is toilet trained and asks to go outside when he wants to do his business).  Does anyone know if the Naturediet will help stop him eating his poo?  I am assuming it was just because he wasn't interested in his food that he was eating it!  Yuck!

When I changed my westie over to nature diet I done it gradually mixing it with his other food. He is 1 now and gets 1/2 pack with mixer. maybe he is having too much food someone else will be along with more advice. good luck.

Another thing his coat is looking great since changing over it obviously agrees with him.

You would have been better to leave the puppy on the food the breeder started on till it was a bit older.

WHy is it not eating it all of a sudden? Tit bits perhaps.

It is a baby best not to chop and change its food.

You did a good thing in changing from eukanuba,it is not a food i would recommend, there are far more better and more natural diets out there, naturediet being one of them :)
One of my dogs used to have the yucky habit of eating duck and fox poop,my holistic vet recommended giving her enzymes,it did the trick, after 1 week of taking them the habit stopped,i give them in tablet form 1/8 tab. directly after dinner,i get mine from the health food shop. You guys in the u.k have a new product called "Nupro" it is a liver flavoured enzyme supp. which you mix into a gravy and pour over their food, apparently no dog can resist it! The 2  main reasons of dogs eating their own poop is it has just become a bad habit or they arent digesting their food properly and they try to recover the undigested remnants which is in their poop.

Good luck ;)

Puppies can get the runs from eating too much, as well as changing diets too quickly.

I would use the Naturediet for puppies - and I think you may be feeding him a bit too much.  1/2 pack a day is more like the amount a fully grown Westie would eat.

By the way -- puppies get the runs from lots of different things, including bits of who-knows-what they've eaten on a walk or whist exploring the garden.  Worms are a common cause of the runs as well - a puppy should be wormed once a month until they are six months old.  Then every three months (if you are in the UK and do not need to worm for heartworm.)
