me and hubby to the dogs to our usual haunt today, when we got there we headed for the woods to take a stroll round only to be welcomed by a dog that still had a harness attached to him and was very wary of people both myself and hubby tried to coax him over to see what his tag said to no avail he just wouldnt let us near him!! and to make things worse he CONSTANTLY!! tried to mount Kira she let him sniff her etc but as soon a he tried to mount she warned him not to bother but this didnt even make him think twice about trying and trying!! poor Kira only wanted to play her usual game of fetch and couldnt get peace :-( . even Zar tried to put him in his place by warning him off as he overstepped the mark with Kira but this little fellow just wouldnt give up!! argh!! we eventually got back down to the park area still with extra dog in tow, a man was approaching from the lake area with his wee white westie dig so i thought i will ask him if there had been any1 going round the park looking for this randy wee chap!! as i was trying to explain that the wandering dog had constantly been trying to mount our GSD kira he asked me to give him a wee minute till he recalled his dog i started to say sure no problem then Kira decided to go and say hello to the westie as she was trying to get by the wanderer and what did the man do? any guesses?? nope well he lifted his huge walking stick that he had and was going to whack Kira with it!!!! just because she was going to say hello to the westie my hubby shouted at him not to even bother and what he would do to him if it even so much as went an inch near Kira!!! he insisted he wasnt going to hit her just scare her away??!! but it certainly didnt look like that from where we were standing, and what was all the big deal about with Kira going to say hello??? well the westie was in heat!! off lead in a park where dozens of people walk their dogs every day of course his excuse for lifting the stick to scare Kira away (even though we had only just finished telling him that our girl had constantly been pestered by the wanderer) as we shouted she is a she and of no worry to his in heat dog he should have been more worried about the other 2 that were there at the time our Zar (castrated) and the wanderer unsure if intact or not? he retorted well she looks like a he :-o!!! we were both gob smacked by this man, firstly we couldnt enjoy our stroll through the woods because of the wanderer and secondly because of this man who thought it ok to try and hit our dog with stick and secondly he had his dog according to him who was in heat off lead (sigh) i give up!! Kira was actually no phased by the fact that this man welded a stick at her inches away from hitting him and i hope that by him doing that she will not be fearful of a similar situation or even some1 walking with a stick, as some already know i posted on here months back about her being wary of strangers and i have worked v.v hard to get her more socialized and she has come on a treat, i am very proud of her. i am no longer stressed when taking her as i know she has progressed so much and ill be damned if this guy will put us back to sqaure 1 as it was males that she was wary of, hubby was the 1 and only male she would approach. only time will tell if he has done any damage to our progress! thanks to all who has taken the time to read my rant sorry it was sooo long.oh and as for the wanderer he went off with another lot of dogs who entered the park as we were putting ours into the car, i warned them about him and they said ours are dressed they will be fine which i answered to them that so was Kira and he still wouldnt leave her alone!! ah well i tried to warn them, i also phoned the dog warden and the police to alert them about him and they said they would look into it, they called back to say that there was no sign of him when the went to check, i only hope he is found soon and returned home if he has a loving home as i said he was very wary of us wouldnt come within 3 feet of us or even that he gets found and help to find a new home!!

You have not had a good day have you. It sometimes seems to me the average dog walker is just dense ;) they walk dogs off the lead they have no hope of recalling :) and owners of in season bitches who walk them off the lead and then wonder why they are forever fending off dogs ;)
As the owner of a unspayed bitch who is walked on lead and in the early hours of the morning when in season. And someone who seems to gain an extra dog everytime I go for a walk I do sometimes wonder where these people think their dog has gone too...or do they think at all ;)
I agree totally with you sometimes I want to give up too. But usually I just come on here and rant like you did, better luck on the next walk :)

Hi, agree you've had a bad day and I don't know whether the man was going to hit your dog or not, but maybe the man was frightened, or has had a bad experience before. Not all dogs who come over to say hello are friendly. He is very silly to have a bitch in heat off lead though.

hi Fiona as i said it definately looked as though he was going to follow through if hubby hadnt shouted at him :-( he certainly wasnt frightened his only excuse was that he thought our dog was a he (although we had just told him she was a she!!) and the only thing he WAS concerned about was his dog who was off lead while in heat :-( although i agree with you not ALL dogs who come over are friendly but as a responsible owner if mines werent friendly i wouldnt have them off lead in a public park where there are dozens of dogs and owners enjoying (or trying to in my case) their daily walk :-) exactly what i thought about her being off lead though!! why give yourself the stress of trying to catch your dog especially when in heat when she could have quite happily been on a lead and easily reached if needed!! thanks for the reply
