Hi,
I have a 5 month old Chocolate Labrador, who does'nt seem to want to go for a walk. We take him out in the morning to do his business and then he get a walk mid morning for about 1/2 an hour. If I try to take him out again after that then he just lies outside the front door as if to say NOT another walk, if I force him to go out then he'll amble along for a few minutes and then lie on the ground, the only way he'll get up is if I pull him along, which I don't really want to do so I end up carrying him home, he's now 17kilo so its getting harder to carry him.
He seem ok in himself and has lots of energy to play and bite, its just the walking that's the problem, he's so lazy - and I thought Lab were outside dogs.
Does anybody have any ideas or advise on what we can do. Also what is the recommed amount of exercise for a 5mth old lab. Please help

Does he show any other signs of discomfort or limping at all? How does he sit and how are his actions when he runs?
If in doubt I would take him for a check over at the vets to rule out any under lying problems .

He showns no discomfort when running or sitting an dis not limping, took him to the vet and he checked him over, said he was fine and recommended we change his dry food and give him some vitamins, we did this and he's had really bad diarrhoea ( just liquid) for 2 day and not eaten a thing, wish we'd never bothered to take him now!!!. Also do we go back to the original dry food or change it for one with more protein which the vet recommended ?.
After all this he's still not up for a good walk and if we do managed to get him walking anything between 1/2 - 1hr he takes to his bed for the rest of the day. Lazy or what!!

Try changing his food again but this time introduce it slowly mixing a little in to his food to begin with gradually stopping the old food. IMO Go for something that is gluten free & diary free. It will minimise any runs.

An hour maybe a bit too much for him.
John has a good tip, 5 mins excercise for every month of age ! :)

My lab goes out for about 4 walks a day...just fairly short ones and then perhaps a play in the fields or woods for one of them. He has endless energy and really gets so excited to see his lead coming out. When he was younger he wasn't really up for walks but as time has gone past he can't get enough of being outside - round about the time he learnt to cock his leg he started to enjoy it more! Oh he does laze about too in between walks but generally stays awake for the whole day getting up to mischief ha ha. Maybe it's because of your dog's age and the fact that he has been feeling unwell with an upset tummy?
