I have a 9 week old cavalier king charles who has colitis i have been to the vets 3 times since i picked him up last tuesday 02.03.04 he doesnt have very bad upset tummy all the time and doesnt always pass mucus and blood but when he does its quite alarming i am now starving him for 24hrs to see if this will help and to pass the infection through and then to feed him on chicken and rice. He has already had a course of antibiotics and this is the cours of action my vet has surgested other than to take him take to the breeder which i dont want to do as he has become part of the family can any one suggest anything else we could try
Have you spoken to the breeder and are any of the other pups affected? Was he like it when you picked him up.
Have you changed his food from that which the breeder gave him? Are you giving him too much (this can cause stomach upsets)
Try boiling and cooling his drinking water as well in case there is something in yours that does not suit him.
Have you ever had a dog in your house before that had stomach problems?
When was he last wormed and has he been injected since you got him?
Has the vet done a faecal sample to see exactly what the problem is (hopefully he is insured so this should be covered)
Lots of questions and no suggestions but it is the cause that really needs to be found and treated rather than just the symptoms and your vet should be the best person to help with this

hills w/d prescription diet worked for my father in laws dog with collitis, you must buy this food from a vet.personally i have never known a dog fed BARF with the problem but that just maybe coincidence, but if you are feeding a complete maybe it is worth a try gradually changing the pup over and see how he gets on for a while.usually find the solution to most problems by trial and error..
