Hello out there - 'Oh Great Pool of Knowledge'

Well the pups 3 weeks old now so we took her to be weighed so we could get her some worming paste.
She's gone from 8oz to 1lb 4oz and growing by the minute.
We didn't see the vet so I would appreciate any advice on weaning - would this week be a good time to start?
I believe milk with a little weetabix mixed in is to be given first of all?
Does anybody have a diet plan for weaning a cocker.
She has kept her tail which is the best decision we have made as she wags it like a trooper when we let her have a play on the bed. She is responding to everything and tries to suck on fingers - which is why I am wondering if now is a good time to wean?

Cheers All

Hi Carl

Why not wean her straight onto dog type food rather than human food?

If she were mine she would be offered a chicken wing with the skin cut to play with and given a teaspoonful of finely minced meat for her first solid food - this increasing to two separate teaspoonfuls the second day and so on.

Once she was taking these well I would introduce pureed fruit and veg and more chicken wings - till she is fully weaned and on four meals a day.  Do some research on raw feeding if you decide to go this way

Hi,
I would start weaning by offering her (from your fingers) about a teaspoonful of scraped raw beef (not minced - that can be too stringy) once a day. That should be enough for the first couple of days, then you can offer the same thing twice a day for a couple of days. Then I would add some thoroughly soaked and mashed good-quality puppy food, just a tiny bit, as well.

we wean all our puppies onto a mixture of minced cooked chicken we buy the chicken in bulk and mince it ourselves with a 2nd hand butchers mincer we bought and dry puppy food soaked with a bit of hot water. we do this when they around 3-4 weeks old so that they are eating really well by the time they are 5-6 weeks and we gradually lessen the chicken and water till they are eating just the dry food.
