Topic Dog Boards / Showing / What was your favourite Crufts purchase?
- By gwen [gb] Date 07.03.04 23:13 UTC
Ok, so we all shopped till we dropped (along with a little dog showing too ;))  So what was your favourtie thing you bought?  I got glittery collars/leads for the 2 pugs who dont have them, a load of new brushes and  a gorgeou mug iwth a pug head on it!  But my absolute favourite thing (as of this afternoon) was a tube of coat detangler called "Cowboy Magic".  It had been recomended to me loads of times by friends from the USA but I never got round to trying it, so on Friday I expended £8 on a tube - it must have been fate! ;)  When I got a good look at the dogs on Saturday morning (got home after midnight Friday and dogs all in bed) I saw Lilith was just one big fuzzy knot!  (Lilith is a black & White Am. Cocker in full show coat).  Talking to the girl who works for me I discovered that she had been worried Lilith looked a bit scruffy by Thursday afternoon (I had left her coat oiled for the 3 days I was away) so as a nice surprise she decided to bath her!  So she shampooed her, (No conditioner applied) gave her a good towelling rub dry, and then dried her in the drying cage with the blaster on full!!!  Anyone with  long coated dogs will realise what a recipe for disaster this is!  After this she spent Friday afternoon playing in the run, without her coat protecting oil, and picked up quite a bit dirt and staining.

So I set to work this afternoon, terrified I would have to chop lumps off! (She is a wimp when it some to de-knotting)  .  The Cowboy Magic said to rub tiny bits inot the matts, which I was sceptical about, and that the knots would simply disolve - and guess what, they did!  I was probably a bit over generous with the product, as I used almost a whole tube, but the result was amazing, completly knot free with no tugging at all.  This is definetly one of those micracle coat care products which lives up to its publicity!

I found a great t-shirt stall and got a skinny t-shirt with WOOF written in diamante and a casual t-shirt with a cartoon dog saying, did anyone say walkies?
Also really pleases to get Obi's first (and mine!) show lead and collar, a lovely black leather one, it has even inspired me to enter our first show!
- By Lissie-Lou [gb] Date 21.03.04 00:27 UTC
aww, chaliepud.  I didn't go to Crufts this year, but 2 years ago, I bought our first show lead and collar.  I tell you what, I was over the moon for days.  I just kept looking at them!!

Think, apart from that, my best purchases have always been my GSD books.  There's always a good choice at Crufts and I sit at the stalls for hours trying to decide which to buy!

OH.....the same year that I bough our first show lead, I also bought myself a fleece coat.  It was £20 and it's wonderful.  Most of the time it's covered in mud and stinks of dog, but stick it in the washing machine and it comes out as good as new.

Lisa :)

Ooh Gwen, where do you get this 'Cowboy Magic' stuff? It sounds exactly what I need. Not for the dogs you understand - they don't have that sort of coat. I'm just fed up to the back teeth of my son's beloved dreadlock, and if I snuck into his room when he was asleep and applied some of that stuff ... ;)

Best purchase so far is an un-popable ball which so far day 4 is full of teeth marks but still inflated .I wanted a sparkle collar but i couldent find a pink one .
- By gwen [gb] Date 08.03.04 09:39 UTC
Callow, Hpp, wh had a stand at the show, had gorgeous sparkly collars, but none with them in pink - however, they assured me they had plenty of pink ones back at the warehouse, just forgot to bring them!  they are very good about mail order.

I wanted another for my Boxers....
Sadly I got fed up with trying to get round the halls on Saturday and
gave up with only half the shopping done that I wanted to do :(
Next year I'm going over 2 days I think...1 day to do my shopping and
the 2nd day for watching my breed and doing my breed stall shopping :)
I was almost tempted to go up yesterday......:D

I think Doggy Fashion might also have had some sparkly collars, Callow (they are based in Brighton and do mail order).  I got a lovely red leather collar with silver bones going round it for my girl.  She is a working cocker, so I couldn't justify anything more glitzy, though I was tempted by double diamante collars!   Other half was appalled even by the red collar, but a girl is allowed to dress up occasionally...  I did hit me as I was paying that I don't spend that kind of money on my own accessories!

I was a bit disappointed at the lack of "original" stuff, I really wanted a "different" collar and lead set which wasnt too "out there" but all i could find was either the bog standard stuff or diamante stuff ( I did manage to buy a camoflage collar and lead but I really wanted a decent burberry one :( ).  Same with bowls I wanted some nice original bowls but all the totally original stuff were a bit too OTT.  If anyone has any suggestions of websites that I can order original stuff I would be most greatful :)

Hi blondebird,  I saw some fake Burbery collars, but no real ones.  However did see some lovely Aquascutum ones, and also have a catalogue at home with them in, can send you contact details if you want?

blondbird im sure i've seen burberry collars and leads on ebay before.
- By ClaireyS Date 09.03.04 09:13 UTC
to be honest ive never looked at e-bay - probably because I cant access it from work :P  i'll have to have a look tonight .......... oh dear my poor credit card :(
- By gwen [gb] Date 09.03.04 10:02 UTC
Of course, Harrods Pet Department do Burberry too, and they mail order.  Will PM you with the details of the people who do Aquascutum - am sure it will be cheaper than harrods.  Have seen lots of Burberry on e-bay, but a load of it is fake.

Hi there

One of my friends bought a burberry collar and lead (original) and i seem to think it set her back £150-£200.

Her dog looked stunning, unfortunately whilst out walking he decided to pull and the collar snapped.  She did complain and got a full refund.

He's a 2 year old boxer.
- By ClaireyS Date 11.03.04 19:34 UTC
I wont shop in harrods out of principle because they sell puppies  (ok and I cant afford to!!) I would love the details of that catalogue though.  Ive seen a fake burberry collar in pet smart - maybe I will have to settle for that :D
- By gwen [gb] Date 11.03.04 23:27 UTC
Will post details of the catalogue over the weekend - have leant it to someone who wants to order a dog sweater.
