Did any body get any free samples of these at Crufts? I did, thought they were good but wouldn't go out and buy them, dogs weren't that impressed. Quite expensive too. What did you guys think?

What are they?

They look simular to a nylon bone, but they can eat them, quite strong and hard to chew or brake. They are in the shape of a tooth brush and are a dark dull green colour. Cleans teeth, freshens breath and reduces plaque and tartar.

They are from America they brought them to crufts last year and were here for this years, other stalls were selling them, but the Greenie's stall was giving them away :-)

They sound similar to a Rask I suppose.  Does it say what is in them?

I give mine raw bones, they are free :D

Ingredients:
Processed wheat gluten, glycerin, natural
flavor, powdered cellulose fiber,
monosodium phosphate, monoglycerides

So basically it is powdered grass (or similar), mixed with wheat gluten for the starch (read sugar), with fats to bind and a bit of flavouring.  How much are they flogging this for?

Not sure how something that contains starch can help remove plaque and tartar though!  It will surely leave deposits on teeth?

... but Tohme ... the pictures of them in DW showed them as toothbrush shaped so surely that alone will help clean their teeth <evil grin>

They are abit more chewier than the Rask don't brake up like they do. They cost around £15.00 for 4 of the large ones for such as a St bernard, Malamute sizes, for one small one for a yorkie sized dog around 60p each.

What a rip off!  That's it I am going into the pet food/treat market :)

I better not let my butcher see this he will start charging me for bones!!!!!!!!!!!

They are a rip off. I got the free samples form crufts last year and this year and find them really good and the dogs loved them but for the gsd size they are about £6.99 each. I wouldn't pay that much not every day for four each day. Would cost me an absolute fortune

tohme-----your very lucky if your butcher isnt charging you for your bones, -a lot do, ------ i tend to only ask for them when ive bought a load of meat from him.    :D        and i then get them free,

Butchers have to pay to have their bones taken away and so should not be charging you theoretically :D  however as in everything else stuff is worth what people will pay for it :D

Hi guys, re the Greenies thing, as I understand it they are over 50% protein and contain gluten. Nylabone have a new product out called Nutrident, low in protein and gluten free, I think it is cheaper as well.

We have just got them here in Australia,my dogs both love them,yes they are expensive,$2.00 for a small(petite) size,but i cut them in half down the middle which makes it easier for my wee girls to chew them + they last longer,the pack instructions recommend 2-3 each per day~SCOFF~ that would be around $84 per week ,it only takes them 10min. to eat them.
The prices here are; $2.90,regular
                            $4.80,large
                             $$8.80,jumbo these prices are for 1 only,i know a bag of 8 large,which is what most of your dogs would need,costs $31.10! They also make greenie sprinkles which you can pour on top of their food,they do make a change from bones for them which my dogs appreciate ;) If my dogs love them then any other dog will too as they are the worlds most fussiest eaters :rolleyes: they get them 3-4 times a week and they get bones on the other days.
