Dolly is insured via the KC healthcare plan and when we got the pup i phoned up and insured him but it was only due to start on the 15th March when he turned 10 weeks (as they won't insure younger than that). I remember one of the questions they asked was had it been ill or had vets attention which it hadn't, but now it is ill and at the vets so should i tell them? Just worrying because if he's ill again they may refuse to cover it if they find out we sought vets attention before the policy started? (But after the phonecall)

You will not be covered for his present illness and should it return they would not pay out for it. No reason why they should not insure him for anything else that he may get in the future that is not connected with this illness. I have changed insurance company and am not covered for one of my dog problems that I told them about but they have paid out on all other illness that she has had including an ongoing life one. Be honest with them and see what response you get. If you change insurances you will not be covered for this illness again anyway so you have nothing to lose.

If you had the 6 weeks free insurance with them you should be covered as it is a continuous cover. I would give them a ring and say you are enquiring and ask the question :)

I would tell them regardless of the cost of treatment or your wish to claim/not claim. If in the future you have to make a substantial claim one of the questions the vet will be asked is any illness or condition he has treated your dog for in the past. If you fail to tell them they may turn round and say your insurance in null and void as you failed to disclose something when you took your insurance policy out. Not worth the risk as most insurance companies will try anything to avoid a payout.
