I've got a litter of 4 1/2 wk old pups & just noticed that the bitch is already squatting like a bitch whereas the dogs tend to stand with one hind leg slightly forward - presumably they are already turning into boys & girls!
Think the bitch stops cleaning up because the waste is no longer just hers & tastes disgusting - judging by my bitch's face anyway!!!

Males do no squat so low because of a) bladder placement and b) they don't want their projections touching the floor :D
Bitches stop eating puppies stools once weaned because they taste so gross!

My bitch will still eat her puppy's poo if I don't get there first - and he's 21 weeks now! We had to separate her from the litter at night at about 5 weeks (I think) 'cos she was still clearing up after all 6 of them and thus giving herself diarrhoea. Obviously she hadn't read the book! :) :) :)

the longer the mother eats the poo for the better, it saves you having to clean it up!

Mine clearly don't pay attention to what they should be doing either!!

We are not talking about dogs with depraved appetites here :D :D :D

Bitches have to lick newborn pups to stimulate them to wee & poo & eating it is part of the process. As they get older, the pups start to have control over their own bladder & bowels therefore they don't need help from mom ~ hence she will stop doing it for them. :)
