hi there our cocker is 7 months old ,could anyone tell us when should we expect her first season and is it normally 1or 2 a year.also if we decide to have her spayed when would this be best.  thanks .jfa

Like yourself....I had many questions on this subject....so...If you press the 'search' button at the top right hand corner of this page, then key in 'season'....you'll get loads of previous threads on this topic that will answer/inform you of the many questions you will no doubt have. It worked wonderfully for me :)

If it is of any use whatsoever my cocker spaniel had her first season as exactly six months then the next two seasons five and a half months apart.  Because we want to mate her this season it still hasn't arrived!  Typical!

My working cocker is 9 months old - no sign of a season yet.

Seasons vary enormously - the first one can be as early as 6 months and as late as 18 months. In the show-type Cocker, it seems more usual for solid bitches to have their first seasons earlier than the particolours - our Cockers are particolours and it is rare for them to have their first season much before 12 months old. If you have decided to spay your Cocker, then you should wait at least 3 months after the first season (mid-way between cycles is best).
