My Bullmasiff was diagnosed with 'localized demodecosis' after he was neutered at 6 mths.
The vet said stress from the op could have set it off.
He was given 'Aludex' baths at double strength twice a week.
After 6-8 weeks it wasn't getting any worse but not any better either.
I read up on it and decided to let it 'run it's course'.
The hair grew back and everything was fine until my partner went into Hospital.
Vinnie missed him terribly and started losing his hair again.
Dave came out after 2.5 weeks but the hair isn't growing back yet.
We don't want to put him through having the baths again as the hair loss doesn't bother him.
It's not itchy he just has bald patches around his face and head.
I've been told that 'ivermectin' can be used to treat this condition.
I use ivermectin wormers for my ponies. Could I use this on the dog??
The internet says it's not registered for use on dogs but it has been used by vets.
If I take him to the vet and he gives me ivermectin he will use injectables every day and that will cost a fortune.
The bald patches are not bothering the dog and we love him anyway he looks. It does say that 'localized demodecosis'
usually clears up of it's own accord, as Vinnies did initially. How long would this take??

Hi anwen,
I knew that you shouldn't use ivermec on collies and herding breeds but I'm not sure whether it would help Vinnie.
He's had Aludex baths B4 and they had no effect. That time the Demodecosis wnet away itself after I stopped the baths.
He's had this bout for 3 weeks now. Gradually getting worse.
It's a bit sore now but not bothering him. Now Dave's out of hospital Vinnie seems to be getting a bit better.
I don't want to put him through the baths again, he hated it, and it did no good.
I think I might give him a week or two and if he's no better I'll get the vet to give him an injection and see if that has any effect.
if ivermec works does it stop all further epissodes?? Vinnie gets it when he's stressed.
