Topic Dog Boards / General / water bottle feeders for dogs

I was thinking of getting one of those upside down bottle type water things. Any thoughts if they are worthwhile or not. Looked on the Marlin stand at Crufts but they were sold out.
Thanks

Unless your dog drinks a lot I would think the inside would go all green and slimy during the warmer weather especially.  Cheaper and easier to keep filling up the water bowl :)

It is to use in the house though. Have got 8 big dogs and i seem to spend half the time filling up  bowls which they proceed to slobber all over the floor.

I use a giant rabbit water bottle attached to my dogs cage and she also has a little bowl like a parrot feeder (sorry can't explain very well) so she can drink in the cage.  the rabbit bottle was from a pet shop and the parrot bowl was from ebay.  I got them because she kept tipping bowls over and never had anything left to drink.  I wouldn't change them now because its so easy to keep the dog dry and the cage clean.

I have those stainless steel dishes with the round ring and the bowl fits in them, the round ring has hooks that hook onto the kennel door (I think they are bird dishes lol :D) But hey they work great. I also use them for my ferrets, rats and hamsters. I also have 2 icecream pails filled up in my house, I use them outside as well. My friend works at A&W and she gets the great big butter containers and I'm thinking of using those this summer outside, great for big dogs. I'm change the water every day and more so in the summer just to keep it cold, I even through icecubes in it in the summer, or freezer half a pail and add cold water this way it stays colder longer in the summer.

When one of my dogs takes a drink she has a bad habit of putting half her face in the water bowl as well, soaking her whole beard and then proceeding to drip water all over my floor, then the kids come in,walk on the water and spread dirty foot prints all over the kitchen floor, aaahh arent they precious  I am almost continuously mopping,i was thinking about getting one of those rabbit bottle feeders but i imagine it would be very frustrating for the dog when he is really thirsty but can only get a few drops at a time, what do you think?? My dogs beard should be white but it is brown from constantly being wet,my other dog doesnt get a hair wet when drinking, only her tongue touches the water,i wonder if we can unteach this dirty habit,or maybe get a really narrow bowl so they cant stick their whole head in,does anyone have any suggestions??
Star,What are your reasons for wanting a bottle feeder?

I have that problem too - love the long haired dogs but boy they're messy eaters/drinkers.

Our back hall and kitchen is quarry tiled and it becomes a major health hazard when our have finished drinking.  I keep thinking I'll get some of those long rubber mats that use at training clubs to stop dogs slipping on wooden floors but haven't a clue where to get them.

Any ideas anyone?

I know what you mean but i was wanting to know how successful the 'waterers' are. It is only for use indoors or maybe when we go away with the caravan. I havent been able to find any other stockist than marlin but would really like to know if they are any good before I buy. :)

I've seen portable ones that you carry while out walking,  they are like a plastic bottle that has a pull down tray for drinking from and a carry handle for convenience.  You can get those from Scotts of Stowe and  Shire's of Bath by mail order.  I think both company's are on the net so you may be able to order on line or at least request a catalogue.
