Its Mufti day at school tomorrow and Mollie has to dress up as a character from a book. I have NO idea what to get her to dress up as and options are limited:

1. She's 9, tall with long blonde hair
2. She has no dressing up clothes
3. She has jeans, t-shirts, shirts and a black layered skirt

Any ideas who to dress her up as? I can put her hair up... we can find a baseball cap - but thats about it!!

I am also rubbish at creating stuff - so be gentle with suggestions!

If she takes Willis, you could dress her up as Lester Pigott!
:D

Alice in Wonderland - make a pinafore - white teatowels or undo a pillow slip - over her black layered skirt & tee shirt - hair down, but back in an Alice band!

I'll keep on thinking.....

thats a really good idea.... but maybe I could get away with a modern day Alice - just in normal clothes and a hairband? :D :D I wish I were more creative :

JG - LOL @ Lester Piggot

Just get her to wear her riding clothes and say she has come as National Velvet. Or failing that her dressing gown and PJ's and she can go as Wendy from Peter Pan.

jaqueline wilson writes books about an 'ordinary' 10 year old girl, cant think of the name of the girl in her books but if you do a google you may find someting, but i remember that the girl just wears jeans and t-shirt as she is a tomboy

Jaqueline Wilson was at our local book shop this week and my daughter bought a copy of Best Friends her lates novel and it was signed by her.  All children seem to love Jaqueline Wilson books can't say I've read any but  I know Tracey Beaker is a favourite with most of them.

How about a nice "nightie" as Wendy in Peter Pan? You never know you might have something white to make into a nightdress and ballet pumps - and a large stuffed dog instead of Willis :P :P

My 5 year old had to go to school as a cat today. I found loads of masks you can download of the internet & print out. She wore black trousers & t shirt with a bit of fur round collar & cuffs & a furry tail (though a stuffed sock would do for a tail) someone told me to stick a white fluffy bib on the t shirt to make it more cat like but I dont do sewing lolol. Dunno if it helps but when my son was little I got a huge cornflake box, (the sort the supermarket gets about 20 packs of Kellogs cornflakes in) I painted it & he went dressed up as a garden shed lolol perhaps you could do one for Hansel & Gretels cottage lol least theres no sewing!

Hi Choe, I had the same thing with my 10 year old son today.  He went as Frodo (LOTR).  Some of the girls at school were: Rapunzel (long blond hair), Jesse out of Toy story - Jeans, shirt, boots neck scarf and hat, lots of princesses and witches.  How about cinderella (rags version) - long adult t-shirt, chopped at bottom, tied round waist with rope and a broom.  I don't have girls of my own, so not really good with girlie ideas.

Edit: oops just noticed the time, sorry my reply is so late!

Little Trollboy went to school today as......Jack and the Beanstalk :D   Check shirt, check waistcoat, old trousers at half mast, 'Dai Cap', three beans in his pocket and a 'made' beanstalk (we had a blue peter moment last night :D :D )

For some reason he wasn't keen on my other ideas

Goldilocks and the three bears - a blonde wig and three teddies :D
Wee Willy Winky - Pyjamas and a teddy and candlestick :D
Jack and Jill - check shirt, check waistcoat, trousers at half mast, bucket, brown paper, 'bruise on head' (make-up honest ;) ) oh and "jill will be along in a minute"
The Giant from Jack and the beanstalk - (T's really small :D ) same outfit as jack ( ;) )  but without the beans and with his echo microphone "FEE FI FO FUM..."

He wanted to go as The Owl and the Pussycat - all in black with cat ears, a toy owl and little green boat and some honey and money WRAPPED IN A £5 NOTE    he's not daft this one, I think he's been here before :D :D

My son went to school as Huck Finn-cut up pair of jeans and shirt so they are all scruffy, I put muck on his face, legs and arms. Got a cheap straw hat (plastic) from shop and made him a fishing rod from some garden cane with string on it.

Cheap and not too much hard work

Good luck

My two had to go dressed up for *book day*- as characters from a book.  I got the ghost costume from Halloween- unpicked the stiching at the back- tacked silver tinsel round the edge (worn back to fron so it was like a cloak) and made a crown from the bottom of a plastic pop bottle upturned- glued tin foil on it - 6 bendy straws again with tin foil glued on them and stuck the straws on the sides- put a bit of card round it all (after measuring her head) and hey presto she's the white witch from 'Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe' she wore a white polo top, white three quarter trousers and white trainers :-D  Kane- I used the grim reaper costume- unpicked the back like the witch costume- tied a black tie round the waist - a wizard hat from Halloween and we poped the lenses out of a very old pair of glasses- painted them black- drew on a scar in red felt tip pen and hey presto we had Kane as Harry Potter :-D

Shannon being in the juniors they had a competition and she won :-D She was chuffed to bits cause she's not so outstanding in her work that she stands out nor is she naughty so she stands out (just an average kid) so she's often overlooked if you get my meaning- so to win she was pleased as punch :-D   I was surprised at how many had bought costumes on :-o  There was loads I would say almost everyone had bought costumes on.
