I did a car boot a couple of years ago, you have to get up REALLY early on a Sunday morning pack stuff into the car, un pack it when you get there then pack half of it back up at lunchtime cos you didnt sell it (and you end up buying loads of other people junk too).  It was freezing cold and I only made £40 for 4 hours work, I could have gone into work that morning and made double that for the same amount of work :P

so what im saying is .... I would never do a car boot again, but its up to you it is better than giving stuff away because at least you make some money, its just so disapointing knowing how much you pay for stuff new and then selling it for a fraction of that cost :(

I did a car boot last year.  We had loads of what I considered to be 'junk' - handbags, some clothes that had only been worn once, old videos, a mirror, cups and saucers, old books, an old set of cutlery, etc, etc.  Yes, I had to get up very early on the Sunday morning, but I didn't come back with much or with anything from other stalls (it was too cold to wander around!) and I made about £150.  Well worth the effort!  :)

I think it depends on what you've got to sell.  Good luck and don't settle for the first bid for your OH!  :D

I've only done one car boot sale to get rid of some of my junk.  It was great I really enjoyed it :)
Got there and got swamped by all the other sellers buying most of my stuff before I'd even had a chance to unpack it   It was nice to see stuff that I was thinking about chucking in the tip being snapped up by people who really wanted it.  It really is a case of one man's junk is another man's treasure :D
Didn't have anything left to bring home at the end of the day :)
Go for it - even if you only do it once.

Thanks for the advice and I'll obviously hold out for at least 10p for OH.

How about eBay?  We have sold lots through them, currently selling one of our cars!

Hi Karen
I did one YEARS ago when they first started to become popular . Its a good way of getting rid of any unwanted clutter although as already mentioned you do have to get up early
I found that as you were unloading the car ( at the unearthly hour of about 5.30am) there were hoards of people around your car waiting to see what goodies you had . We sold lots of stuff the kids had outgrown and sold a pram before we had even got it out of the car :)
Theres also lots of people wanting to buy things for next to nothing . They ask the price and when told 50p or whatever immediately try to reduce the price - 50p I ask you
If you pick a nice sunny day and take Sal along for moral support I'm sure you'll shift alot of unwanted items :) :D :D

Just wanted to add that I havent done one since but my ex mum-in-law goes along every weekend ! She BUYS MORE than she sells

Hi Karen,
We've done a few boots sales over the years.
The early morning are a killer, but we are lucky to have one on an afternoon.
I found the best sellers are kids toys, video's, computer games etc.
The kids always have a box full to sell, helps toward other stuff they want.
I usually price everything up slightly more than I want for it, as you know they are going to haggle.
Then you get what you want for it, they think they've got a bargain as they've managed to knock you down, every one happy :D
The last hour I tend to lower the prices anyway, as I hate taking it back.
