Anyone know why diabetics should be treated differently for foot injuries? Mom has scaled/burnt her foot/leg and they made quite a fuss at trhe hospital she s in her 70's? Karen
Diabetics are more prone to infection, slow wound healing, ulcers, gangrene etc. and also diabetes can cause nerve damage so the patient may have a reduced sensation of the warning signals of pain.
I'll do my best...Thanks all...Mom dropped the kettle of boiling water last night and burnt/scalded her leg and foot she had a 2nd degree (just) burn where her leg joins her foot the leg is blistered. We spent from 8.30pm last night until 5.10 am this morning there while they assessed her (she has other problems than just the diabaties) Trust her eh :) I'll have to put her in a bag and shake her up won't I?
