I am hoping someone may be able help.  I have a six month old chocolate labrador.  Should we have him castrated or not, I have heard some different views about it.  I was wondering if any of you guys could help with my descison.

What would be your reasons for wanting him castrated? What is the problem that you are hoping to 'cure'?

Why did you buy a male dog if you are now going to castrate him, do at least let him grow up first, say about 2 years at least.

as long as a male dog is kept under control as all dogs should be,there is no need to have him castrated.Keep him properly socialised and not allowed to run the streets and he will be fine.If however you want to have him castrated having it done before he is physically mature can affect his appearance. The choice is yours...I think its down to you...if you would be happier having him castrated it will not do him any harm.

Sorry but will have to disagree, most dogs are ok castrated before maturity but not all are, I had the misfortune of having one that suffered badly and because of that I would never ever never castrate again except for medical reasons. Take a look here may be very much on the anti side but well worth a look.

I have two castrated males, both done as adults, i wouldn't, personally castrate a puppy as i would want it to mature. But i think it is a sensible thing to do if you are not planning to put him to stud.
I have seen the effects that testicular cancer can have, and will always castrate my future dogs.
At the end of the day though it is a personal decision, and only one you can make.
