have you seen flyball?
if you have and would like to have a go, you don't have to have a collie,we have cross breeds, spaniels, rottweiler, gsds,
if you have not seen it and would like to know more about it.
Wilton dtc have an opening for two new teams, all we ask is that your dogs like tennis balls.
we hold flyball lessons crufts style, every monday night at 7.00pm at south avenue dormanstown redcar, why not come along and see if it is for you,
from the 13 march we will be holding competition style training for flyball so if you would like to be part of the wilton flyers come along.

Hi Carol
I am so interested in Flyball but we live in Swindon, Wilts and don't know if anyone holds this near here, our BC loves tennis balls is obsessed by them in fact!
Any ideas how I can find out where one is being held near me??
Thanks

Hi Me too ,i shall try a google search ,what do the dogs need ,eg do they have to be over a certain age ? are certain dogs better at it than others ?,sorry to sound so dippy ,have heard of Flyball but usually as mentioned with B.C's they . seem to go hand in hand ,?(i know that B.C.s are considered one of the most intelligent dogs, i assumed this was no coincidence ! ) any info would be good thanks Sue T xx

when i am training new people i find as long as the dogs are ball orientated it does help, jumping the fences comes easy after that, then teaching the box make take a few times but once they understand what the word press means and they do it and the ball comes towards them you just build on that that is the basics but by no means all of it.
at club in my teams we have border collies, spaniel, gsd, rottie, crossbreeds and we shortly have a powder puff joining .
you can start a pup of 6 months on box training,
you can train at home throw a ball to your pup throw overhand not underhand,we call popping the ball to your dog, this teaches the dog to catch the ball cleanly.
we normally start jumping the fences at about 10 months but the pups are on the leader and they are taught to really step over the fence and they walk to the next fence and carry on like that, we have some dogs at 12 months flying over the fences and some of 2 years just learning to go over the fences, it also helps if you have a recall with your dog.
