Our tiny Maltese has today been diagnosed with Colitis she already has Pancreatis which seems ok at the moment (the vet did a repeat blood test ) . He has changed her food to Arden Grange Hypoallergenic. So far she hasn't touched it but we live in hope. Does anybody have a dog of a similar size (2kgs) with this problem.Thankyou.

Not a similer size I am afraid but my Boxer had horrible colitis a couple of months ago,it got to the stage where he was just passing mucus and blood. After a couple of weeks on just chicken and rice and a food change to Burns venison and brown rice(supposed to be good for digestive problems)touch wood it has completely cleared up!I have to be extra careful not to let him eat anything out of the ordinary and had to tempt him to eat it at first with a little natural yoghurt but apart from that he's fine.
I was so worried it was something awful that would go on for months or years even(Boxers are prone to it)but it has completely gone.I do hope your dog responds well to the food,I know how worrying it must be,good luck and I hope this helps,

http://www.bowchow.com/specific.htmlThere is specific information on colitis on this link which, in turn, can put you in touch with other help. True colitis is different from a number of other disorders of the digestive tract and correct treatment depends on correct diagnosis.

Yes the vet said it was an intollerance to wheat that was causing it so after switching to Burns(wheat and gluten free) it seems to have cleared up.She said this was one of the most common causes and they can develop it at any time.I was just so amazed at the difference!
