Wow thanks Mel...
Geoff :)

You are welcome :D
Thanks for the link Geoff (and Mel ;) ) It's about time manufacturers (of both pet and humans food) were made to declare *exactly* what is in food products. My guess is they wouldn't sell anything if they did. Yuk! :(

being a cynic anyway I never tend to believe all this "best cuts of meat" clap trap anyway - especially given what they feed humans in pies , mince, sausages etc :(
but its a good read anyway G3off

lips...eyelashes.... *hurl*
Thanks for posting that Geoff. Hopefully everyone will read the whole of this long article and think about what we are doing to our dogs (and cats)
I don't *think* foods manufactured in the UK are supposed to use downed animals, roadkill and euthanised companion animals but this would largely depend on the manufacture and their need for profits I imagine.
This article may also go a long way to explain why some of us feed the way we do.

No they aren't Kerioak and this is very strictly regulated in the UK, the more so since BSE. I've no idea of the law in the US.
But isn't this a bit circular?
We shouldn't feed kibble because (among other reasons) it contains meat by-products but we should feed BARF and it's variants because it contains NATURAL by-products - including, according to Billinghurst, roadkill.
Dogs and people are omnivores (dogs are NOT carnivores) as someone keeps stating.
People should eat naturally. Therefors people should eat meat - including roadkill.
Not perfect logic I know, but no worse some of the stuff we get on feeding. :(

Nothing wrong with a bit of FRESH roadkill :D
Dogs ARE in fact carnivores NOT omnivores :D the fact that they can and do obtain food from other sources is neither here nor there. Carnivores are differentiated from omnivores not just from what they ingest but their whole physiognomy :D The scientific definition of a "carnivore" is based upon anatomical characteristics and evolutionary evidence. This is a fact not a matter of opinion. :D
ALL animals should consume species appropriate food.
As I said, nothing wrong with a bit of FRESH roadkill :D
No its not allowed in the UK, if you do a search on here you will find a reply I had from defra when I asked this question a couple of yrs back & I posted it on one of the disussions we were having at the time. BUT, it does go on the USA & pet food is imported into Europe & the UK from the USA, so........

By the way, rendering plants & dog food manufacturers in UK are self regulated anyway.
