Could anybody tell me abit about the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog? Has anyone owned one at all, and how do they get along with other dogs? My hubby and I have finally figured out what breeds we want someday, so we have decided to do all the research on this breed. Hubby want a Mastiff and I want the Alapaha so we are hoping after doing all our research these are the dogs we want. We are both planning on getting males since we do prefer the males. I have read that they are more layed back then the American bulldog and early socialization is a must I believe with any breed it should be anyhow. We are planning on taking them to puppy school, obedience ect. I'm even thinking of showing but who knows. We are not planning on getting them till our furbabies have passed on, but thought it would be a great time to do the research on both breeds to make sure they are what we want, you can never have enough information. I have checked out Blue Blood The only breeder we have here for them is in Ontario. Hoping some day to own an Alapaha and a Mastiff :) On the Bulls Blood kennels - canda I really like the pictures of Sarge and Marbel. I prefer the bigger ones then the smaller ones.

Hi dollface,

Well here goes the alapaha blueblood bulldog looks like a standard bulldog, they have drop ears, loose lips , and high shoulders and cat like feet, they originated in the Southern US.
Alapaha blueblood are approx 24 inches and can wiegh up to 100 pounds for males , and 78 pounds for the females.

The Alapaha bluebloods colour can be Blue merle , Red merle ,Red merle with white or Chocolate and white.

The temperament is loyal and obiedient , the Alapaha will defend its family to the death, they are good with children quick to train and love human companionship ,they make excellent guard and watchdogs.

The Alapaha comes from a small genetic pool and is prone to certain deformaties such as inversion of eyelids , and the life expectancy is about 12-15 years.

And they are not recognised by the KC or the AKC.

hope this helps.
Helen.

Thank you Helen :)
Do u know if they get along with other male dogs like a Mastiff (I know hard one to answer but just wondering since we would love to have both these breeds)? Is that mostly the only problem with them inversion of the eye lids? I tried to call the breeder here just to ask some questions on the breed but there is no one home at the moment, will try again later.

ttfn :)

Yes they do get along with other male dogs.  As long as they are raised from a puppy with them.  They are also good with cats ,horses, goats ,and small children once agian as long as raised with them.  I try to have all my puppies come into as much contact with the animals on my farm before sellong them to a new home.  Hope this helps some.    Fort glory

Ok here is some more info on the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog.  They are wonderfull companions and the best gaurd dogs I have ever seen never haveing to be trained to gaurd. This comes naturally to them and they seem to instinctively know the difference between friend and foe.  They can be shown in all American Rare Breed Assoc.  Shows and Rarities Inc. shows .  More people are needed to show them as they are not fully recognized yet untill more people get them out there at shows.  They come in all colors and there is no set color for them.  They are good in all climants and can handle extreme weather even heat.  They are more athletic than the english and american bulldog.  Yet, eaisier to train than The American bulldog.  I hope some of this helps.  Make sure you check out as many breeders as you can of Alapahas before making any choices.
