Out walking one of my Staffs the other day (he's white with a few large black patches) and a few young lads were playing footie as we walked past in the park...they looked over and said "oh look, a dalmation"...err...what??
Now I know he's lost all his muscle since he was so ill so doesn't quite have the staffie proportions but since when does a Staff look like a Dallie - or am I missing something here??
Maybe I should get a sign to hang round his neck saying "I am a Staff...honest" until he gets his muscle back! :-)

All the best gwen at the Hasweth household

Don't worry about it. I used to have a Harlequin Great Dane and I lost count of how many times people said to me that he was a "big dalmatian". In the end I just used to nod my head, say "yes" and walk on.

Took my 12 week old Am. cocker pups to the shops last week for socialisation and 2 people thought she was "a lovley little poodle!" And quite a few times I have been asked if the pugs are Bullmastiff pups!

My Dane has been a boxer and a weimerama (terrible spelling i know) ;) but now she's grown up!
How the dalmatian sticks in the public imagination! Walking Morse past a school used to elicit cries of " Look its a dalmatian!" even after I explained the difference between Pointers and dalmatians a dozen times. The other laugh is when I get daring and tell people hes a Lurcher ( theemx says he can be an Honorary Member of the Lurching Order) and they then say " Aw and he looks such a nice doggy too!" :D :D

Well Lana (who is a six month old black afghan) has been a poodle, a dane, a newfie and an "unusual mix" (

the cheek) - It's amazing! I appreciate she looks quite different from her adult form right now but her tail is sooooo afghan! When we go for long walks on the weekend (with Lana's choccie lab boyfriend) we have a bet on how many people will ask me what she is :D

I was in town on Saturday with my little boy & saw a beautiful liver & white pointer. Went over & asked if he could say hello as it was a new breed for him (being used to Labs). The dog was only 7 mths and absolutely lovely (big kisses all round).
When we met up with my husband later, my son proudly announced "Daddy, I met a Pointing today" :D
He does make me smile.

well my red and white setters are spanials!!!! (with long legs and tails!!!!)
The aussies are border collies without tails!
Well thats what I have been told. Not to mention some wise person told me I was fooled into buying a red and white setter as they don't exsist!!!!!
Rox

My Tibetan Mastiff I was told was a long coat rotties but the woman said that it was a shame that it had not been docked because it made them look a lot different

Someone once asked me what breed my dalmatian is - granted he has brown spots - but I thought everyone knew a dalmatian when they see one.

My longhaired Weimaraner has been described as "half a Weimaraner", a throwback, a poorly pigmented red setter and a lurcher. The best was when appearing at LKA and someone thought she was a flatcoat (ROFLMAO) :D :D :D
I have been told on several occasions (sometimes at considerable length) by the "cognoscenti" that there is no such thing as a longhaired Weimaraner, that I would never be able to show it, that it is a "mutant" gene and that they are not recognised by the Kennel Club and I have probably been sold a "pup"; often to the great amusement of my companions.
At one agility show a woman called out "Excuse me, is that a breed?"
I now tell people that when she gets to a certain age all her hair will fall out and her tail will drop off and then she will look like a "real" one! :D

There's no pleasing some people is there Ice Queen because my spaniel is a puppy English Setter!?! (She's 2)
one of my neighbours has a white staff, they are beautiful dogs and if i had another dog i would be tempted to have a white staff but they definitely dont look like dalmations

I had a brindle dane many years ago that was called a long haired Greyhound, I wouldn't mind but I was showing her in a dane class at the time.
Wow, can't believe the mistakes people make! I guess you've just gotta laugh in the end though! At least they're taking an interest in your dogs. Mind you I was a little surprised when a woman mistook my 2 other Staffs for Rottweilers (my other 2 Staffs being dark brown brindle with white on them) a couple of months back.
Maybe when Marmaduke (my white and black Staff) gets his muscle tone back he'll be accused of being a mini-harlequin Dane...I could then say he's a teacup variety and offer his stud services for a phemomenal amount! He he :-)
when my pied staffy bitch was with us good rest her soul people used to say oh what a big jack russell you`ve got :`(

Well I ended up having a stand up row with a lady last week when she insisted on telling me that my beautiful new puppy an AM bulldog was a boxer, I said politley no she isn't a Boxer she is an AMB, lady said no she isn't she is a Boxer my friend breeds them I think I know one when I see it, then she said ' I think someone has had you over love, bet you paid an absolute fortune for that & it will grow up to be a Boxer' I really didn't know what to say to that.
You could tell her that you love her regardless, that she is your companion and its a privilige to share your life with her, and far from being "done over" you have been enormously blessed :) I know you havent been done over at all, but it will fair nip know alls heid as we say up here. Works for me. :)
Some Am Bull's can have the Boxer look about them.
If you don't look properly at the Homeward Bound Movie...
Chance (? or Chase, I can't remember the Am Bull's name) looks
alittle like a long-tailed (White with colour patches) Boxer.
Just the head isn't very good for a Boxer head...:D
Which is hardly surprising as he's an Am Bull :)
Don't worry my red and white Boxer bitch puppy
was described as a vicious Rotti pup :o
Then another lady turns and 'corrects' her and says
'It's a long-legged Bulldog'
I admit my temper did get the better of me, and I did respond
'that actually she's a Boxer and No she's not vicious!!'
Don't some people just make you wanna scream

Very few people ever asked or guessed what breed my Dandie was, few realised she was a pedigree at all, and when told what she was were still non the wiser :) she always prefered to travel incognito anyway :D

Funny thing that but I keep thinking my Staff was a Dalmation in a previous life. She's white pied but has loads of black dots on both ears and as she grows so do the black spots on her skin. The end of her tail is almost black under her fur and when she has a bath or gets wet outside you notice just how many black spots she's got.
I prefer to ignore the ignorant when they tell me what a lovely baby "Pit Bull" I have. I am aware of my Staffs origins but to my knowledge bullbaiting was outlawed in 1835 or there abouts. And i personally think it's a shame that after all these years of Bull Terriers ridding themselves of such names, there are people out there that still see them as fighting dogs.
Our Staffie bitch is white and her 'spots' can be clearly seen once she is wet. She has them on her bely and back and her legs. It is a sign of the pigmentation and skin of your dog being good so don't worry about it. As our bitch has got a red patch on her side and her bum and half her face is red and the other half white we've had all sort of questions asked about her such as:
Is that a Jack Russell?
Is the other half of her face/ body going to turn white/red as she gets older?
Has she got dalmatian in her breeding?
and the funniest time had to be when she was laying down in the middle of the high street with her feet in the air with three kids stroking her and a women approached us and asked us 'Is she friendly?!?!?!'

LOL. That sounds about right. What also amuses me is when out with my 7 month old bitch (she takes me for a walk :D ), she'll see someone and will want to say hello, her ears are back, pulling on the lead and tail is wagging furiously and people back away like she's gonna jump for their throat. Obviously they're not doggy people!!

Well, I have no such problems, since everyone knows that my OES is a 'Dulux Dog'. I even overheard a chap in the park explaining to a foreign visitor, (very slowly and loudly), that this was a 'Dulux' dog, so named because of the fact it was in the paint advert!!!!

Just to add to this:
my wheaten terrier puppy has been:
4 times a puppy briard
8 times a puppy oes
10 times an AFGHAN
10 times "a cute fluffy doggy"
3 times a wheaten CAIRN terrier.
ARGHH!!!!
i have 2 options -a) "yes, of course, you are right"
b) "no, she is actually a wheaten terrier" - "a WHAT? ooohhh, never heard of them before, how big do they grow? what colours do they come in? what are their characteristics? where did you get her from......" GO AWAY!
