Just another moan
still wound up...went to the local country park this morning as usual...lovely walk!! Just going up the final hill having passed a lovely happy english bull on a lead and harness ..tail wagging at my boys..sun shining etc..wonderful.
Got to the top when I heard a woman shout 'get your dog on a lead'..turned to look and a small staffy was heading straight at the BT with the owner walking behind(no lead on dog) and it obviously wasn't freindly. All hell broke loose and the 2 dogs set to...and so did the women!! All I could hear was screaming and shouting and crying. After a few seconds I could see that these women were not going to seperate these dogs and the dogs were going to fight till one could carry on no more.I put the dogs in the car, picked up a lump of wood and ran down the hill.....The BT had hold of the staffy just below the ear and the 2 owners were pulling the 2 dogs apart...the poor staff was in the middle and the BT wasn't letting go!!All the tine the staffys owners freinds collie is barking and stirring the other  dogs up even more.
I had no option IMO but to hit the BT with the wood and thankfully he let go.
The stupid woman with the staffy then started screaming at the middle aged lady ...so I'm afraid I lost my temper and and told her it was all her b###y fault since her dog was obviously not freindly, not under control and had left the BT no option but to defend himself.
The women then screamed at me and stormed off with her freind leaving the barking collie still baiting the BT!! I had to tell her to take her other dog away before that got hurt!
The poor BT owner was distraught!! The dog was covered in blood,Bleeding from his eye and with a nasty wound to his neck.I apologised for having had to hit her dog...he wasn't at fault!!
I walked out of the park with them and  then got in the car and went home...covered in blood!!
As far as I'm concerned people like the staffy owner shouldn't have a dog...its not the dogs fault..its the incompetant owners!!

Good for you Archer splitting them up! :)
Some people have no idea about the consequences of their dogs actions or believe that if their own dog gets bitten for approaching a less than friendly dog it's their *dogs* fault and not theirs as the owner

What a horrible situation and that woman with the Staff needs shooting (and I have 3 Staffs).

I hope the BT was ok, well done you for intervening, it's a worrying situation to be in.  I had to deal with something similar a few weeks back.  I was stood chatting to a chap who had his 2 Staff bitches with him and my 3 Staffs were with me.  All of lead and ignoring each other.  We've met many times before and were all pretty relaxed.  He then threw a stick for his dogs before I could say anything (something I don't ever do with mine) and my adult bitch picked it up and walked away with it.  One of his bitches then went for my girl and all hell broke loose.  My bitch defended herself and they started fighting.  The other owner just stood there like a lemon and watched!  I had to wade in (I'm 5.4 and about 8.5 stone and he's a big hefty bloke) and separate the 2 bitches.  It took a hell of a lot and I was terrified.  If I had had a lump of wood to hand I would have used it on the dogs to try to prevent any further injuries.

I hope I never have to do that again.

Thank god you were there to help Archer!  The poor owner of the EBT!  As you say, its entirely down to the other owner, clearly not understanding her dog's behaviour and being incapable of keeping it under control.  Who knows what this experience has done to the EBT, and the poor lad had no choice but to defend himself.  Plus, his owner has now had a terrible fright and her enjoyment of walking her boy may now be entirely ruined as she will be constantly worried about something similar happening.  What a terrible shame, and all because of one idiot   No wonder you're fuming about it.

Have a glass of wine or several, you deserve it :D

Thank heaven for people like you Archer.I am usually very cautious when meeting other dogs.I have a very friendly 17 month golden the other sunday morning we were out for a walk and came across a beautiful looking Lab who was with his owner. My dog went to say hello and was pinned to the floor by this lab and the owner just ignored us I was so angry.I blame the owner if he couldn't control the dog it shouldn't have been off the lead.

not exactly the same, but when i walk bruno from work, hes a rotti, he is kept on either a leather police lead, or in open spaces on a long line, for two reasons, his recall is not brilliant so better safe than sorry, and he can be dog aggresive, not all dogs, (he plays with the pups no probs and recently much to everyones amazement i have been taking bruno out with my spaniel jack they get along fine so much so i have photos of them playing in a river together, and my boss has said that he has never once attempted to get in water he would rather step around puddles then get his feet wet :D )
Any way when i see other dogs i tend to call him in and keep him close, but the amount of times i have to ask other people to keep hold of their dogs while they go past is amazing, i mean you see a rotti hackles up, he is up on his back legs and barking agressively and you let your dog go and say hello dispite being asked not to, and they wonder why i end up shouting at them.
Its not as if i head for spots and times when i know there will be loads of dog walkers as we try to avoid unnecessary stress to both me and bruno.
