lily is 7 and a half months now, she can hold her wee perfectly well if we go out, but if we're in the house and we don't get to the door within 30 seconds of her arriving at the door wanting a wee she just goes. is there anyway i can get her to let me know ? she won't bark - just stands there silently. it's just getting ridiculous now, she really should be toilet trained by now !!! i still try and let her out frequently but had hoped we would have got to the stage where we don't need to let her out every 30 minutes whether she asks or not by now.
we still praise her super enthuiastically when she goes outside, and we ignore her when she goes inside. please help !

Personally, I'd be pleased with her progress at this stage :) She is toilet trained, she just can't hold it, and the fact she is asking to go out is a good sign. Its not until a fair bit older I would expect a pup to hold it to fit in with me as opposed to t'other way round :) Phoebe was about 12 months before she learned to cross her legs and hold it :D

Our girl rings a bell tied to the keyring on the back door, she used to knock off a plastic bag holder thing so i just swapped it for that and it's quite cool!! :D
She's probably ringing for England when i go out lol

I'd strongly advise the ringing a bell rather than barking - I taught Bonnie to bark as a pup, and now she barks for ANYTHING she wants :(

I found an old ornament bell (brass one shaped like a lady u know the type lol all grannies had one) but i didn't teach her i rang it a few times and said "out" but then gave up, and a few weeks later she just did it.

Willis bashes the door with his paw  and if you don't hear that he comes and fetches you

Chloe lol i don't even know if she rings the bell with her nose or paw!! i never see it you just hear her bashing it about!
I'm quite proud that she can do that cos she sure as hell can't do anything else!
looks like i'll be out bell shopping tomorrow ! thanks for all your quick replies and i'll give it a go, although i'll probably feel like a servant when she dings a bell at me when she's hungry :D

We had exactly the same problem with our last rescue dog. Our hall is long and turns in an 'L' shape to the back door. If we hadn't seen him go round the corner we didn't know he wanted to go out as he just stood silently and waited til he could wait no more.
We have lever handles on our door so I taught him to stand up and rattle the door handle. It took one 3 minute session to train and it works perfectly. (Like Digger said - no unwanted barking!!)

lol ours is same age and has same problem, she just sits silently by the door until she cannot hold it any more...... We do try to keep watching but sometimes we get engrossed in what we are doing and forget... One good thing the 'accidents' are getting further and further apart ;)
