Hi Briefdog, I live near Spalding and being retired I do not know about the work situation around here but your local employment DSS or whatever it is called these days should be able to phone for you and find out.

There are loads of dogs up here but not that many kennels, well not that I have found in my area anyway, in general the area is very tolerant of dogs and those of us who have moved up here for the available land to exercise our dogs. Where about is the property you have seen?

Jenny and Derek Coddington, Terri-Ann Eade and Teresa and Casper Jonsen all live near Boston, so it's quite an active F/C area.   Also Barbara and Aldo Harkin not too far away.

Bit on the chilly side - even colder than here, but the people are warm and friendly!

We have a very good climate, but little rain, the area around the wash is different for some reason from the rest of Lincolnshire, we thought it would be very windy, but it isn't, mind you if there is a strong NE wind we know about it but that does not happen often. We moved here from Bedfordshire and there is no way I would go back.

There are a good few dog clubs but you have to be prepared to travel, getting to shows is not a problem, from the Boston area you can take the A16 to Peterborough where you can pick up the A1M and from there the A14 or M11 or you can strike out West on the A52 toward Nottingham. Depending on where you live now it will take longer to get to some shows and less to others. There is Wood Green Animal Shelter, Newark Showground, Peterborough Showground, Wisbech, all within an hours drive of Boston and all hold dog shows and Newark almost every week.

I live in Spalding Lincs, I find I have trouble finding dog classes and the like but otherwise a very sociable lot we are, plenty of open space for your dogs.

Hi Briedog.  I live with my parents in Leverton Nr Boston.  We've got 4 ESS and we are looking for decent kennels.  I would love to start back at Obedience and Agility if you decide to start training classes.

Its amazing how many Lincs people there are here!!!!!!! I am from SLeaford as well, so not much help with Boston area. Just watch out for the language when you get out into the fens. It gets very broad Lincolnshire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sometimes, unless you are used to it, you cant understand a word they are saying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Chazess have you heard of Amberhill Dog Academy which is in our area, I found it through a search engine, have rang them this afternoon and am going to attend on Wednesday evening for an obedience class, I attend ringcraft in Surfleet on a Monday.
- By Lea Date 28.02.04 19:46 UTC
Yikes forgot about them. They actually have a very good reputation. Most people go there from my area.
Hope you find all the info you need about Boston.
Lea :D
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 28.02.04 19:50 UTC
Have you been to them Lea?
- By Lea Date 28.02.04 20:15 UTC
Sorry Jackie nope :( Cant go as nooone has ever been able to look after the kids.:( I have heard thru customers they are good, Have alot of customers so you get to know things thru the years, so far I havnt heard any bad reports. Unfortunatly craigles, I dont know of anyone close enough to get them to speak to you.
Lea :)
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 28.02.04 20:22 UTC
Just wondered because I have had some poor reports but I have not been either.
- By Lea Date 28.02.04 20:25 UTC
Would be interesting to know Jackie.
Think its the only training place around here anyway, so people havnt got much choice!!!!!!!!
Lea :)
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 28.02.04 21:07 UTC
Jackie ..I used to go there ....I wouldn't go back ..nuff said :D

Unfortunately , they are the ONLY training class around here though !
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 28.02.04 21:11 UTC
That is much as I had been told Mel. Can point anyone who can manage the area of Newark in the direction of a good trainer if they wish.
- By Lea Date 28.02.04 21:11 UTC
Ok, that blows everything out the water then!!!!!!!!!!! Thing is, you listen to people, and if a proffesional tells them to do something, they belive it is right, like dog training, and unless you read alot of books, come onto forums like this  etc, you believe what the trainer is saying!!!!!!!!!!
Will now eat my words Melody, I might be some time as the screen is a bit hard!!!!!!
Lea :)
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 28.02.04 21:17 UTC
Lea, don't despair it is only peoples opinions, different people expect different things from their trainers, and different dogs need different training. I demanded that the training situation is flexible enough to accommodate all requirements, others may not have a problem.
- By Melodysk [gb] Date 28.02.04 21:26 UTC
Lea ..it IS only my personal opinion ...and a few other peoples ;) However, I feel compelled to say that I know of several people who swear by the methods employed there and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else. They speak very highly of the couple who run it :)

I guess when it comes down to it, you have to go there and try it for yourselves.

( as a bye the bye ......I saw a customer fall down and die on my last visit there (nothing to do with the training club ..poor woman had a brain clot) and I'm afraid that was the final thing for me ..I couldn't face going back again :(
- By craigles [gb] Date 28.02.04 20:02 UTC
I only called them this afternoon for the first time Lea, don't know anyone who uses them, do you know of anyone I could maybe talk to who has used them?
- By Chazess [gb] Date 01.03.04 09:02 UTC
I use to go to Amberhill regularly, I was a member of their display team.  I would never go back as they mess me about.  I am looking for a training club which does both Obed and Agility.
That's Boston & Districts ringcraft on a Monday night isn't it?  I'm a member of their committee but unfortunatly I can only go on a match night.
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 01.03.04 13:23 UTC
Spalding Dog Club hold Obedience at the same hall at Boston ringcraft on a Wednesday night and Agility on a Sunday at Birchgrove Garden Centre.

Hi chazess

I think i recognise you ;-), if so say hello to your mum for me, and Ice sends you lots of sloppy licks and tail wags.

Briedog,

With regards to training in Boston, We`ve been in boston for almost 3 years now and havent found anywhere where we could train for obediance,We have found some nice ring-craft clubs tho. We did think about going to Amberhill for obediance but I was put off going by hearing quite a few bad reports, There are quite a few kennels dotted about the place, but finding good kennels ( ones you feel 110% safe about leaving your precious babies in ) in Boston is quite hard,, and Hair dressers.............yes please.....havent one decent hairdresser here yet!! lol

Kelly.
- By Chazess [gb] Date 01.03.04 12:13 UTC
You certainly do.  I haven't seen Ice for ages hows his odbedience training going.
My new B/W puppy (Rémy) won BPIS at our Breed club open show yesterday.  I was over the moon.

I live 10 miles from Spalding. I go to an excellent ringcraft at New Leake, Boston on a Tuesday and am surrounded by dog people. This area is mightily dog friendly and showing is not too difficult. For Open Shows Wood Green, Sacrewell Farm and Newark are all very travelable. I moved from Northamptonshire to work the dogs and have never regretted it.
