well you may all remember i posted a while back about guinness by BC pulling my arm out of its socket whilst lead walking lol

well we moved house shortly after that and as the pennies were low lol we couldnt afford to buy a harnass straight away so thought what we'd do is use his halti again untill we could afford it and omg we couldnt beleive it! with the flexi lead (but always locked in short lead position) and the halti he is a changed dog. he has been walking perfectly not pulled once in 3 weeks of living here :) im not sure if its because we now walk in pedestrian areas whereas before we were in the middle of nowhere so he never walked on roadways b4, or that he just decided for an easier life and getting somewhere he shouldnt pull me over lol

anyway i am now a happier dog owner than i was :) and love walking him - much different feeling i have now from a few weeks ago. also when we walk past people 70% of the time he now looks to me for treats rather then pull m over to them like he did, so we are very slowly getting there :)

thanks all for you help and advice,

That is brilliant, well done.  I always find my BC walks much better in the quieter roads than those with a lot of traffic, they are very noise sensitive.

Thanks for letting us know your good news.

Clever lad! It must be lovely to be able to take him everywhere with you without doing your back in!

I  read your post with serious interest and I will buy a halti - copper is a small dog with a big attitude and he can pull me over any time.  I'm having dog classes with him and I'm interested to see how any aids can help.  I'll let you all  know.

hi copper girl

the reason i got a halti was that he likes to pull ahead like no ones business but also he likes to jump at people (even though this is slowly calming down a bit now) and i always feared that with his huge body if he ever jumped at a child then i could at least pull his head away from them and distrct him off them -  even though he has never bit or attacked anyone, he could hurt a child by just jumping as hes a fair size now so the halti is my way of feeling like i have much more control over him than i did.
its took him over 2 mths in total though to get used to it (even though he still ocassionally tugs at it) so be warned youll need patience and persisitance with it lol

Thanks for that!  All my previous dogs were just dead easy, no problems at all.  Then I got Copper 6 mths ago and hey, doggy parenting is suddenly a whole different ball game!  We'll get there in the end and its a great help knowing that everyone else has been there as well.  He's so gorgeous I could never give up on him :D
