Do dogs feel jealousy? I have a 2 year old BC and a 10 month old GR, both bitches, one is spayed the other will be once she has had her first season. Up until recently they have got on well. However Meg the BC has started behaving badly around Ellie, (GR) Meg tends to be top dog, as ellie is too laid back to care, although sometimes ellie can take control of a toy and meg won't argue. There are very few problems at home.  Its mainly out on walks that it is a problem, for example, i call ellie and meg gets there first anyway and aggressively pushes ellie to the ground presumeably over the treat. (Understandably this is not having a good effect on ellies recall, so i really have to do something about it.) She also attacks the nearest dog when i put her halti on during the walk. (This is usually ellie, but i do walk several other dogs with her and she did exactly the same to one of them.) Ellie doesn't retaliate. What should i do. My automatic reaction is to favour ellie, but i don't know if this is making it worse.
Just to give some background, Meg is having aggression problems towards other dogs, so we have consulted a behaviourist, who told us that meg is controlling us and we need to take back the control. I was also advised to teach them to take turns. I.e. one dog waits whilst i throw the ball for the other and vice versa. Meg isn't taking this very well.

The advice to teach them to take turns is excellent :) I used to do this with some of my other dogs and it really works a treat, because the dogs understand what is happening and that their turn will come so there is no need to fight or get OTT.

How is Meg not taking it very well?

Well, i was advised to tie one dog up whilst out, tell her to sit and stay, (and say either "megs turn" or "ellies turn".) and train one (or play with one) and then swap. Ellie is fine with this, but meg goes mad pulling and jumping around, even though she usually is brilliant with sit stays. I think she is so used to being spoiled and always getting in first that she isn't taking the idea well. Once i have finished and let them both free to carry on the walk she will turn round and go for ellie, and ellie doesn't fight back. Perhaps i am not teaching them right, Lindsay, how did you teach yours to take turns?
