I am thinking of getting Angel a harness when she is fully grown but have some questions!
1) Will it wreck her coat as she will be longhaired
2) Will she need to wear a collar as well
3) Are they worth it!
Thanks
Jo

What sort of harness are we talking? If you want a working harness you couldn't do better than to go to
Culpeppers Just ring Phil up and he would talk you through the measurements. If it is a walking harness I would think you could get one from a local petshop , they usually stock them :)

Melodysk, I believe that Angel is a Cavalier!

I can just imagine her pulling a rig :p :p :P

Yes she is a Cavalier! Sorry I wasn't more clear! HEHE!
I know where to get em from just wondered if they were worth having and if they'd damage her coat or anything and if she'd still need a collar when we were out!

You will need to put her ID tag on something; however there is no reason you should not attach it to a harness. Personally I would not let my dogs run free in a harness because of the possibility of getting caught up in it; however I have never used harnesses other than for tracking purposes.

Bradley uses a halti, but he keeps slipping out of it.

You can get a link that fits on to the halti and the normal coller. It is long enough to allow free movement but also if they get out of the halti as mine does occasionally the lead is still connected to the coller so they cant run off.

I tried to persevere with the haltis I got for the two monsters but have reverted back to harnesses and regression training ! Seems to be doing the trick :)

We are going back to training on Saturday to start from scratch. Its my last ditch really because Ive lost total control of him now, Ive got scratches and bruises to prove it and he has me in tears quite alot now. He got me up every hour last night with his antics. Iknow its wrong but I had to pin him down because he kept going for my face.

Hi Emma,
Stick with it!! There's nothing wrong with pinning your dog down! Providing it's done in a dominant way and not out of total anger. I've done this to one of my GSDs when she got way out of line. She was put in a down and held there by her collar until I decided she could get up. They have to know you're the pack leader.

the halti links are very good only cost just over a pound too form pet shops definitely worth getting - my BC got free of his halti once and ended up being bit by another dog bless but it made me get him one as he could have been run over etc
collette :)
HI Emma
IF he is on the lead at this time, calmly put him in a down and hold him there with your foot on the lead close (ish!) to the collar :) Reward him when he is calm.
It may be because he things have changed so much and he senses your own demeanour, and is on his own more (no criticism intended) in which case he will hopefully settle more when he gets used to his routine.
Best wishes
Lindsay

Alternatively attach the lead to the Halti and then to a half check collar, this way you still have the manouverability needed.
