Hiya,

Once the dog and bitch have tied would you turn him or not?

Your opinions would be great please.

Thanks.

Jane

Yes, I turn him (making sure the bitch's tail is out of the way!).

We would generally lift the dog and gently place him next to the bitch...so that they are both facing the same direction.  This allows him to stay reasonably 'straight' during the tie, which can last up to an hour.  We would hold both dogs during this time, to keep movement (and injury potential) to a minimum

"Next to" or tail to tail?  They generally stand naturally tail to tail

'Next to'....tail to tail always seems to bend his 'bits' too much.  We find we get less crying and whining when we place them 'next to'...

I know it looks uncomfortable to us, to say the least but to turn is natural, so I train my boys to turn.
