Topic Dog Boards / General / putting Mia in kennels

I'm putting my dog Mia in kennels when we go on honeymoon, she will be in there from 17th September until 7th October, do you think i should make sure she has her own toys and some of our old clothing that smells of us so she will feel secure? she has been in kennels before but never for this long, i dont really like the idea of putting her in there for so long but there is no-one else to look after her.

Any advice would be really appreciated as i'm getting a bit upset already about her being on her own.

Steph she will be fine, honestly.  I was really worried about Bradley but he loved it.  When he went back in for a week for me to get my head together he was so excited.  He had his own girlfreind Milly.  I gave him all his favourite toys and bed.

She will be fine.

I always take the bedding they have been sleeping on the night before so the smells are familiar  I don't take toys personally, it would worry me that they might eat a piece of it and choke or something.

Although the kennels have heat lamps, one of my dogs feels the cold so I always take his warm coat in with him if the weather is chilly.

I got really upset the first time I put my Dally in, he is a dog that likes his home comforts so much, ruined my holiday worrying about him.  Next time I put him in, he pulled the guy over to the kennel block without a glance back at me!!  I was more upset the second time because of that!!

Could you not put her in for a weekend first to see how she gets on, then you will enjoy your honeymoon much more knowing she is fine about going in.

she's going in for the weekend around may time, maybe i wont take toys, just incase she does choke etc, normally i'm ok about her going in kennels, its normally just for a weekend though, this time is just so long :( , but your right she will be ok, and you never know Mia might find a boyfriend, just like Emma's Bradley found his girlfriend!
