sorry if im posting this on the wrong thing but it is in a way related to behaviour.
last night while at ringcraft the trainers noticed me and shiba messing about in the corner, i had my mobile and inhaler on the floor and every time shiba picked it up for me id reward her,,,well they have given me a telephone number in sheffield to ring as they think i stand a good chance of having her trained for me to be a dog for disabled and help me around the house when i am badly and cant bend. taking washing out of the machine and generally retrieving things dropped on the floor, mail papers etc.
its funny as instead of thinking about me, i answered a post the other day on here about pets as tharapy and am still going for this but at the same time my girl can help me.
has anyone heard of these dogs before? i have heard of them in the us but not in the uk?
i am so excited especially as my week so far has been dull and last night i achieved 4 passes in my puppy foundation for the good citizen dogs scheme, well my baby didxx

Nina Bondarenko is behind the canine partners for independence; excellent clicker trainer.
Sounds promising and I hope it works out for you. :D I read about the lady whose assistance dog is paid for by Social Services as a canine carer in Dogs Today last month. Ill be very interested to hear how you and Shiba get on. Its great having dogs around as they seem just to lift your spirits by being themselves and after the week youve had, Sam you deserve a break.

There are trainers all over the country who work with the owner (I think this is Nina's scheme but I'm not sure) many of them are APDT trainers and they work with the owners existing dog in order to help the owners independance. I think this was set up because so many people were being refused assistance dogs, or asked to rehome their existing dog before an assistance dog could be given to them :(

hi the centre is in chappletown sheffield and is called support dogs, it is a charity run organisation.
shiba is the right age to register with them and paperwork will be sent out shortly to me.
unfortunately there is about a years waiting list but some general things i can do with her at home and at training, they have said they will help.
it is really exciting, im a little weary though as the training is resedential? can only assume it would be live in? have to wait and see when the booklets come

Hi, I just had to post to this thread as I believe getting my angel (chinese crested called meeko) has helped me more than words can describe, Ive just been diagnosed with MS and no matter how bad I feel he always makes me smile and if I am feeling bad he knows and cuddles and licks me, he has kept me sane during this hard time, and it,s all thanks to CD cos i got him from one of the breeders on the list, I am forever indebted the breeder, CD and most of all my Meeko. Sam good luck with the training I'm sure you'll have lots of laughs while doing it, and congrats to your baby for her 4 passes,
xxxNicxxx
