Im hoping someone will be able to give me some advice regarding my 6yr old rottie Jez. Just recently he has been having pain in his back leg which the vet thinks is arthritis. He has given him anti inflamatory tablets for a week and told us to give him cod liver oil. My partner takes him for a run every morning down a local lane which is srrounded by fields and he runs perfectly fine, unfortunately me being 8 months pregnant, i cant take him during the day. I have noticed during the day if he rests he then whimpers trying to get up but once he is mobile again seems ok. Is there anything else i can do for him? He needs to lose 10kilos and he is on a diet but he seems a bit depressed. Could this just be down to the arthritis or could he also be reacting to me being pregnant? he is a resuce dog and was rescued by us after his previous owner had just had a baby. Maybe im a bit mad but wondered if he realised this?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Clair

Dogs with joint problems respond well to supplements such as glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate; one brand that springs to mind is Cortaflex which comes in preparations for humans, dogs and horses.

1000mg of Fish Body Oils per day may be better than CLO as there is not the Vitamin A and D problem.  Vitamin C with bio-flavenoids, Vitamin E and germanium may also be of assistance.

Obviously being overweight puts extra strains and stresses on the joints which is not very helpful.

The link below maybe of assistance.

Also if you feed veggies you might want to steer clear of the nightshade family eg potatoes, tomatoes, peppers, aubergines etc as these are thought to aggravate the condition.
