I visited the mother of Ebony last week because i am good friends with her owners and she looks really well but one thing i did see was that she has 10 nipples and Ebony only has 8 .Why ? Are all bitches different or does it depend on there size?

Well I never really paid much attention but have just turned Sal over to check and she has 9.

Hi there, my lab has 10, is it true that when a bitch is in pup the nipples on the chest can protrude more and change colour?

Daisy had ten.  Until she became pregnant.  Then she grew an extra set!!  Maybe we should have been clued in when that happened that she was going to have a monster of a litter!  Anyways, the vet said it was indeed very odd, he hadn't seen it before.  But he assured me the nipples would be non-functional.  I told him I didn't think she'd grow them if she didn't intend on using them!  Sure enough, both of the "extra" nipples were actually functional.  They were a bit smaller, but produced milk very nicely.  Once she weaned the pups....one of the nipples went away, but one stayed!  So now she has 11.  I'm interested to see what will happen with the next litter!  :)

My one girl has 12. Two like little dud nipples at the back, but they do work as she has a litter now and milk does come out of them.

Hi My shih tzu has 6 but they are all inverted, when she had puppies she only had 4 'useable' ones but this was ok as she had 4 puppies :)

My german shepherd has 14 nipples which i found strange as my uncles female only has 8 but he said all bitches are different

That's so funny! Sasha has 10 and a half. The half being a little bump next to a nipple but doesn't look fully formed.
