Topic Other Boards / Foo / Pancake Day!
- By jackyjat [gb] Date 24.02.04 13:15 UTC
It's Shrove Tuesday today!  My sons school has had to cancel the traditional pancake day races on the village green which is a shame as this day often falls in half term.  It's raining here and we can't have children running in the rain, now can we?  They might slip!  Instead the Headteacher has 200 disappointed youngsters.

Pancakes are always top of the list of favourites here and my youngest would eat them every day.  We will go for the traditional lemon and sugar with the odd variation of maple syrup for the Kipper and perhaps ice-cream and chocolate sauce with a token gesture spray cream topping. I use a £2 Ikea special frying pan, cheap enough to replace a couple of times a year so the non stick works and I will make enough for the three of us with some left over for breakfast tomorrow as a treat!

How do you eat yours?

Ok I know Im 30 years old and no I don't know how to make Pancakes, yes I am ashamed, yes Im useless, Luis did all of that,  before that my mum.  My daughter knows but she's staying at my mums.  Could somebody help all I would need is just enough for me and Bradley (its our bonding night).
Emma
P.S Im sorry for being useless I will try harder I promise

Try just under half a pint of milk, one egg and about 3-4oz of plain flour.  Add enough flour to make it thick enough to well coat the back of a spoon.  Add a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of oil to the mixture as I find it helps them not to stick to the pan as much.

I guess you can do the rest!  Failing that you could go to your mums too!

Happy Shrove Tuesday!  (Uh Oh! That means it Lent tomorrow, now what shall I give up?!?)

Having got the recepie book out for the mixture !! I managed to make pancakes.

Following a discussion with my 4 year old (!!) they were filled with smoked cod and prawns cooked in butter and garlic.

I then had  a traditional one with lemon and sugar :D

My canadian friend puts BUTTER on her pancakes! Do any of you? I always put lemon and suger on mine, they are the best!
Do you all have think american pancakes, or thin big ones? I have the thin ones personally, less filling so i can have more! lol.
- By Daisy [gb] Date 24.02.04 17:59 UTC
This reminds me of drop scones, which we used to make when I lived at home. You make a similar batter mix and 'drop' spoonfuls onto a hot griddle :) We always ate them with butter.

Daisy

Yes, they are a bit like scotish pancakes???? I now what you mean, we eat those types with butter, but not the thin and wispy ones!
- By Lea Date 24.02.04 18:12 UTC
Ok, how do you do low fat pancakes :D
Although, Only having pancakes for dinner, Kids having chicken nuggerts and chips. So I should be safe with the calories,,,,,,, shouldnt I ;)

Pancakes don't actually have any fat in them, just what you cook them in (and that can be very little), so really i would have thought its more what you  put in/on them that adds the calories? You could always use half milk and water or skimmed milk. personally, I think if somethings worth eating, then its worth eating the way you enjoy it most!:)

Fiona - who usually has any leftover batter mix from Yorkshire puddings as a pancake in the evening, but now all my boys have decided they like pancakes!  We'll be fighting over the leftover batter next week!
- By luvly [gb] Date 24.02.04 21:41 UTC
