Although I have been to quite a few shows, I am still a 'newbie' to showing, and would be interested in reading more about showing ie what to do, say, wear, etiquette etc. I know there are a lot of books on the subject but can anyone recommend one in particular?

'BEGINNERS TO WINNERS' by Robert Killick covers all this sort of info and is a pretty good read. Good for a relative newbie to showing, it also explains diff. types of shows and how to be prepared etc

I must admit, I have seen this in one of the book shops and it did look a good read. Probably worth investing in and finding out where I've been going wrong!

Robert Killick book is a good one, also "Good Showing" by Peggy Grayson is worth a try.

Robert Killick has a wicked sense of humour. At a show a few years ago we were chatting about the fitness of some dogs in the ring. We stopped by a stall and Robert suddenly said in a very loud and booming voice, "Madam, Whatever do you think you are doing bringing a dog to a show in this condition!" Of course everyone looked and I was at a loss for something to say, but he then after a dramatic pause and knowing he had the full attention of everyone around, said "That dog is so fit it has a well developed second thigh". We laughed well there was nothing else we could do. Robert then ran his hands over my boy giving everyone in earshot a clear commentary on the fitness and condition of Mr. T.

Another good one is "The Winning Edge" by George Alston, although he is American you can apply most of what says to the UK show ring.

It might be worth seeking out the Killick book in some of the discount book stores. I was in one just before Christmas and it was on sale for £4.99 (quite a saving on the list price)

I've just received the Robert Killick book today, so look forward to reading it. I've also ordered one from Our Dogs called 'What judges look for in 100 breeds' by Janet Gardner & Brian Leonard. I wonder if anyone's read this?
